Hunting the Northern Lights: Rovaniemi, Tromso and Iceland

That night, conditions were looking good again for Northern Light spotting. We had another lecture on the Northern Lights to give us some better understanding and hoped that they would appear again. Later that night, the Northern Lights Wake-up call came through around 11:30pm and it was a rush...

Day 2 on tour centred around the Snaefellsness Peninsula. We headed westbound from the hotel with the first major stop being Kirkjufell, one of the most photographed places in Iceland. Could only imagine what seeing the Northern Lights here would be like! Next, a lunch stop in the town of...

Hunting the Northern Lights: Rovaniemi, Tromso and Iceland

Thank you so much! Really appreciate your comments! Absolutely loved Iceland and would happily go back tomorrow if I had the chance (and budget!) The Northern (and Southern) Lights when strong can easily be seen as like a whispy cloud like formation in the sky with the naked eye (if faint, no...

For me, it was usually the batteries that were running low! And always had 2 full at the start of each night! Hopefully will be able to continue the report in the next day or so for everyone when I get a spare moment :)

Hunting the Northern Lights: Rovaniemi, Tromso and Iceland

Glad you all like the pics so far! I have a Canon 750D, with a low light lens that has an f2.8. The majority of pictures were taken with an ISO of 1600 or 3200, and around 15secs exposure. This changed depending on how quick the lights were (very quick in some instances). Very fast had an...

Hunting the Northern Lights: Rovaniemi, Tromso and Iceland

Having woken up on Day 2 in Tromso, went to have breakfast and as I left my room, the door handle snapped off ! Went down to the front desk to explain, and thankfully had the staff member on front reception who was most understanding, and mentioned that this was the 2nd one that had...

Hunting the Northern Lights: Rovaniemi, Tromso and Iceland

The tour took a fair chunk of the day, returning back to Tromso around 5pm. I had booked a Northern Lights tour with the same company that night, and given I was only 1 of 3 on it (the other 2 were also on the Fjord Tour), we agreed amend the start time and to meet back at 6:30pm to hunt for the...

Hunting the Northern Lights: Rovaniemi, Tromso and Iceland

For Day 1, I had booked a tour of the local Fjord’s around Tromso. I’ll let the pictures do the talking – the scenery was simply amazing and could’ve stayed out there all day.
