Been dozens of times to Japan and only once (most recent trip actually) was there a flight change. Always with JAL or Air NZ (when living in NZ). Haven't tried Qantas but perhaps I'll do my best to avoid it going by info on this post.

Can't recall specifically but always more than minimum. I'm only a single traveller so yeah going for two might be a bit less likely

Yep have been successful once and not successful more. Usually the upper classes are pretty full up on the Japan flights
