The unknown variable which probably makes the most difference is the outstation/outsourced check-in agent. Complete QR online check-in if you can. The agent I dealt with in Sydney mentioned that having my digital CX boarding pass already made the check-through process much easier for him.

The 100 SC cap makes the difference to P1/LTG fairly negligible so I guess it's not too surprising. Although even without the cap I reckon Qantas would happily give someone a year of P1 for an 18m point transfer.

It's a oneworld Connect standard - BA and CX (the other FJ sponsors) do the exact same thing. Annoying yes, but these rules are a oneworld decision. Won't be an issue once FJ becomes a fully fledged member.
