disappointment with J upgrade on QF 29

In http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/your-questions/seating-availability-allocation-configuration-help-25680-49.html#post824659 I mentioned my excitement about my first J flight on Qantas (and my second J flight ever, after an AKL-MEL one on NZ a couple of years ago). I was...

    Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Re: change of upgrade on QF 29 tomorrow (May 18) And it seems to have come through already, even though the bookings page said it would be confirmed at 5 hours before the flight. Hooray, seat 2F here I come!

    Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

change of upgrade on QF 29 tomorrow (May 18) Hello! I've put in my first ever QF upgrade request for my flight to Hong Kong tomorrow (QF 29), and I'm wondering what sort of chance I have of it going through. (I'm a PS.) When I search for availability on KVS, I get J9, so that seems promising...

booking discount economy then paying for an updgrade to a sale fare

They probably can, but I think it would result in notification emails and would need someone to approve the change.

booking discount economy then paying for an updgrade to a sale fare

So as it happened I didn't get a change to try this while the global sale was on. But I did just try now with the Asia sale, and failed. When I rang Qantas, they told me that since the ticket was booked through a travel agent, they weren't able to change the booking. Oh well...

booking discount economy then paying for an updgrade to a sale fare

Thanks for looking at that for me. $100 change fee isn't to bad. I guess I'll give it a go and see what happens!

Yes, that's exactly the issue. :)

booking discount economy then paying for an updgrade to a sale fare

My employer likely wouldn't approve the business fare even if I were going to reimburse the equivalent economy fare that I would be allowed to book, unfortunately. Otherwise that would make it easier, yeah. :) I guess my question is "do the fare rules for the flights I quoted allow this...

booking discount economy then paying for an updgrade to a sale fare

Hello! I need to travel to Taipei in May, and I would like to take advantage of the J sale fares that just came out. I'm thinking that if I fly MEL-HKG-TPE, I could fly in J for the MEL-HKG segment at least. Now, my work will only pay for Y, and I'd like to be able to upgrade it myself by...

What is the typical Time a Qantas Waitlisted upgrade comes through?

Yes you're right, often I can. Maybe my question should have been: Will checking in or selecting seats reduce the chance of a points upgrade or op-up on Qantas, and more generally on other airlines?

What is the typical Time a Qantas Waitlisted upgrade comes through?

This is something I have wondered as well. Will checking in reduce the chance of a points upgrade or op-up on Qantas, and more generally on other airlines? (I have a strong preference for an aisle seat, so I usually try to check in as early as I can to make sure I get one.)
