Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

Yeah that's what I've been doing. The limitation then comes from CBA, who only allow 100k to be BPAY'd a day :')

Got another $450k to pump through and then over to KF/QF they go!

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

Well funnily enough I just had a 500k+ missing points claim rectified as of today so you never know...

    Amex D-Day Approaching (14/4/19)!

Nobody is currently paying the ATO meaningful volumes with the Explorer directly. They're using RewardPay, B2BPay or @ferni's method, and they're probably doing it while earning into Ascent, not Gateway.

    Amex D-Day Approaching (14/4/19)!

Oh fair point. Totally agree there! Then again, ATO's flows must be truly gargantuan even compared to behemoth retailers.

    Amex D-Day Approaching (14/4/19)!

You mean 1.45% for the ATO, right? The problem is, I can't think of a merchant whose Amex surcharge is 0.8%. But even that aside, it's impossible to know whether a merchant is charging a certain surcharge because that was the best deal they got, or whether because they chose to absorb some of...

    Amex D-Day Approaching (14/4/19)!

I somehow doubt this unless one adopts a particularly cynical mindset! That and the fact that someone could probably FOI the process that leads the ATO to determine the 1.45% surcharge. My guess is that it really is the best they'll get to with Amex. But I wouldn't rush to judgement so soon - I...

    Amex D-Day Approaching (14/4/19)!

It would certainly be quite the story you tell people in the future...in your brand new Tesla :P

    Amex D-Day Approaching (14/4/19)!

Deleted my previous post as I conflated a non-refundable pre-payment vs a reservation deposit. Indeed, I believe only the Roadster (7k) and Model 3 (1.5k) deposits are refundable.

    Amex D-Day Approaching (14/4/19)!

Check the site, it's 5k for a Model S/X deposit and 7k for a roadster deposit. Edit: only the Roadster (and Model 3) deposits count - the 5k for the S/X is non-refundable as it locks in production.

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

Some, though not many. It seems most plats get the doubling offer. Not enough cent data to know for sure (which well, makes sense). Speaking of which, did you call a particular branch of Amex to request a points doubling? Or was it just the generic MR number on the back of the card?

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

The deval itself was bad form (other than the amount of notice given which I can't begrudge Amex for). I don't expect another offer in the lead-up to April.

Any other interesting ones? New cardholder here so still trying to sponge everything up.

    I can't believe I didn't think of this!

    Plat Charge Priority Pass

Thanks Boomy. This all makes perfect sense. I'm probably happy with $72 between two anyway, especially if I don't drink so no big deal!

    Plat Charge Priority Pass

Apologies in advance if answered elsewhere (doesn't seem to be in this forum). Given a PC + 1 supp can both get PP membership, does that mean in situations such as dining at Movida Syd Airport, you can technically redeem 4x $36 off the bill if you travel with your supp? It would be a case of...

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

Not entirely, because those points earned in the good ol days will be worth 10, 20, 50% (and so on) less if redeemed today depending on time elapsed. The sucky part is that these 'rule changes' can and often do affect existing as well as future earn as well as existing & future balances. There...

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

It's funny how I gave these kinds of examples in the points collectors anonymous thread and seemed like I was the iconoclast in that thread.

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

Likewise I agree with this (regarding banking points) - to an extent. The key difference is that superannuation (which, if we just proxy this to listed and unlisted investments) are by definition, asset classes that are generally accepted to go up over time and often are gifted the magic of...
