Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

Just tried to pull a @JohnK and opened up a chat with Amex - to no avail. They made it pretty clear that 'the offer is not available anywhere on your account' (verbatim). I don't have a very long history with Amex, nor a PC/Cent; maybe they didn't want to double my ~2m MR balance as that would...

Qantas 1st Class Award on MU A350

Ah, uh, quite seafood heavy - esp in the starters. Scallops, abalone, prawns etc. Of course non-seafood mains are par for the course. It would be interesting to see what your wife gets excluding seafood. I wish I had pics but I recently wiped my phone by accident!

Qantas 1st Class Award on MU A350

I've flown on MU's A350 J seats twice SYD to PVG and return. I quite liked it - hard product basically can't be faulted assuming you're a fan of 1-2-1 herringbone (very new seats); food could be better but I liked it a lot more than I thought I would, and the staff were really good to me -...

Points Count [How many do you have?]

Definitely trying to burn more this year with around 600k burned for 3x J return this year to Japan. Trying to also burn as much of my VFF balance as possible with Dom J flights but it'll take awhile. Agree with others saying that the only points worth anything are the ones you spend. It's like...

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

The 1:1.55 reciprocal rate certainly doesn't help the case for transferring to VA... ...I'm a bit biased though, as I already have over 2.5m in VA so my (zeroed) SQ balance definitely could use a bit of a top-up.

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

Whoops sorry! I didn't mean it in that sense (extending existing miles - though you can pay KF to do a one-off 6-month extension but I digress) I meant more points-earning opportunities will present themselves in the interim 3 years such that the game won't be over after 3 (or 3.5) years is up.

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

I'm sure something can be engineered within the 3-year expiry period to keep the miles tumbling around forever and ever and ever... Edit: to clarify, I mean methods of generating more points, not extending existing points in KF beyond the one-off, paid 6-month extension option. And so me three...

    Qantas meal times

I really digged the biriyani on QF2904 two weeks ago. Indian food tends to do quite well in the air and this was no exception!

Qantas orders six more 787s, plans to retire all 747s by 2020

Fair analysis. That said, I frequently find reward availability of up to 6 in J and 6 in Y outside of peak periods, and even 2-4 in J during peak periods sometimes. Bit odd for a high-load route.

Qantas orders six more 787s, plans to retire all 747s by 2020

Forgive my ignorance with exact models and I may have missed it - I've got QF25 in November which seems to be flown by a whole assortment of B744s. What are the chances (even just speculatively) that I'd be swapped out to a 787 before then?

    Point Collectors Anonymous

Wow, 12 months in advance. That's a bit much, considering you can get a guaranteed, tax-effective rates of return by keeping that money parked in an offset account (assuming you have a mortgage), near-guaranteed rate of return in an index fund near-guaranteed rate of return in a high-yield...

My first flight in FIRST by QANTAS was such a let-down, it certainly won't happen again!

It's not easy to have a civil discussion when the online equivalent of shouting (caps lock) is used. I personally also had some difficulty parsing OP's comments due to unusual use of spacing, grammar, and ellipses. This is in addition to the fact that OP had to clarify his/her situation over...

    Centurion joining fee waiver

The fine print of my pack doesn't mention it but I would err on the side of 'no'...it's a bit 'nice' to be true. After all, each PC having its own travel credit would be like having a standalone PC with a supp PC having its own credit, which isn't the case.

    Centurion joining fee waiver

Yep. And with regards to the RM, I feel that realistically I'd only use them for travel arrangements (since I like to be in control for other aspects of my life), which a good travel agent could do. So yeah, while I can definitely picture other cent cardholders utilising their RM, I personally...

    Centurion joining fee waiver

So many of these you'll have heard before but here we go again: 'Preferential' fares when flying with select airlines (all classes, anecdotally not all that great) Lounge access similar to PCharge (Cent counts >1100 lounges) 1x QF Club membership Complimentary EK Gold, Radisson Gold, HH...

Redeem for Suites on Singapore Airlines

I search for suites availability 'for fun' every few weeks with KVS tool which allows me to search entire 30-day blocks at a time (e.g. SIN-SYD from , and I can tell you that the new suites are for all intents and purposes blocked from awards (I have no KF status so can't comment for those who...

    Centurion joining fee waiver

Never held the charge before ever. Just explorer/edge combo like many here. You can actually ask Amex to join Centurion BTW and they'll consider your case individually. With your kind of spend, you stand a good chance of getting through.

    Centurion joining fee waiver

I'll dig out my PDF intro pack after I finish work today if no other current cardholder posts here before then!

    Centurion joining fee waiver

Presumably not directed at me since I didn't take it up but yeah, I actually don't find the benefits all that worth it since I have no brand loyalty other than AU dom flying (where that goes to VA). Post-deval, the points earn/points preservation would have been strong incentives for me to...

    Centurion joining fee waiver

Very little on a day-to-day basis but 3-4 $300k+ big bang payments in a year. Compared to the 'legit' Centurion lot apparently not much, but I've also heard via other grapes on the vine that Amex is trying to actively 'expand' their membership base. But clearly not enough to waive me the fee :')
