signing up again after a year

I was under the impression that you could churn back (so to speak) to ANZ and take advantage of the current offer, but read this: Am I right in believing that once you have ceased being a customer for 12months (I cancelled my ANZ FF card 13 months ago), you are treated as a new customer upon...

MEL - Japan/Taiwan - Europe - MEL mostly points, maybe even EK F

I've got one of those convoluted looking-for-opinions questions :) Trying to get my head around options and best choices for MEL > western Japan and/or Taiwan > Europe > MEL. As I have limited miles earning opportunities and rarely spare cash for premium travel, I like the experience to feel...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I just went back through my statements and yes, in the February statement it had a notification I had overlooked... pity they couldn't be bothered repeating it in the March and April statements! And yes, again, I think this one is headed for the bin. Damn!

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Ummm, not in my last statement. My BAS payment on 27 April yielded points as normal. (HSBC Platinum Qantas Visa )

MHupgrade - can now bid for upgrades before flight

I think everyone gets the email urging you to increase your chances. I watched the availability very carefully on my four flights recently. What matters most is the actual numbers in each business class booking category (e.g. J4 C4 D0 Z0 I0). It doesn't seem to matter if Z and I are zero, but...

MHupgrade - can now bid for upgrades before flight

There's nothing "fishy" about it -- you have no entitlement to an upgrade, just a chance of being granted one. The airline decides whether it would like the tiny revenue from your bid or if it would prefer to leave the seat empty.

Is International Virgin Reward availability now worse that QANTAS?

I'm really curious about something here: how many of you who have observed poor availability have called Virgin to see if anything more is available off-website so to speak? Most reports here seem to just be talking about what can be seen on the website.

Amex Platinum Edge via priceline, no fee first year, 13500 bonus pts for $200 spend

Re: Amex Platinum Edge via priceline, no fee first year, 13500 bonus pts for $200 spe The terms and conditions for the giftcards do not list prescriptions as excluded. What's more, the section on exchange of goods (5.3) explicitly mentions purchases of prescription items by giftcard, clearly...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Ok, I've searched high and low for clarity and haven't found it: does the Jetstar Platinum Mastercard still earn points on ATO? (In April, someone said no, someone said yes...) As income under $65k doesn't qualify for the Bankwest Platinum, and if Jetstar is out, I guess that only leaves HSBC...

Amex Platinum Edge via priceline, no fee first year, 13500 bonus pts for $200 spend

Re: Amex Platinum Edge via priceline, no fee first year, 13500 bonus pts for $200 spe It doesn't seem likely actually, as the giftcards are sold through a different URL (www.pricelinegiftcard.com.au). Still, if you're willing to try a small value, it'd be great to know if it works.

MHupgrade - can now bid for upgrades before flight

I've had three successful MHUpgrades of three bids in September. MEL-KUL minimum bid made A$300 (70% full on departure) KUL-PAR minimum bid made A$880 (almost full J cabin on departure) KUL-MEL minimum bid made A$300 (65% full on departure)

Amex Platinum Edge via priceline, no fee first year, 13500 bonus pts for $200 spend

Re: Amex Platinum Edge via priceline, no fee first year, 13500 bonus pts for $200 spe A quick note that not every Priceline takes American Express. I chucked a tizz at Priceline Melbourne Central when they refused to accept my Platinum Edge that I got through Priceline, and have notified Amex...

Recommendations for a good Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance?

Rep, you need to read the policies more carefully. Let me show you your policy wording and the Worldcare one, with added highlighting by me. [*=1]TID "Special Events" cover: attending a pre-arranged wedding, funeral, conference or sporting event which cannot be delayed as a consequence of your...

Recommendations for a good Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance?

That's not really true, rep. It is correct that you cover prepaid accommodation/tours (I had overlooked that in the Travel Delay section) and some special events, but you don't cover the - in my opinion crucial - costs of additional travel in order to connect with prepaid travel arrangements.

Recommendations for a good Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance?

The recommendation of TID is interesting to me because there's one - to me - key feature missing: cover for alternative transport to successfully make it to an onward journey that you would otherwise miss. With many of us nowadays connecting between separately ticketed journeys/carriers, this...

Beware the complicated conditions of card travel insurance

A quick note about NAB insurance - the policy covers NO pre-existing medical conditions, which is a substantial difference from many other policies. It's worth keeping in mind for people who travel and suffer from e.g. mild asthma, very infrequent migraines, and any of those other conditions...

    OTAs that provide seat selection?

I haven't found any recent thread about the pros/cons of the various local OTAs (trust/cardfees/bookingfees/usefulness), but I wondered today about whether expedia.com.au/wotif.com.au is the only provider that allows direct seat selection when purchasing? In my case this particular issue is...
