Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

I posted about this yesterday. Virgin has started sending out emails about award flights on partners (SQ as well, in my case). Full refund/recredit.

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

It looks like today is "processing cancelled awards" day. This afternoon I got a similar email about a partner award which SQ cancelled some flights for a week ago.

No points for payments via Postbillpay?

I've just got my first statement for my Altitude Black (Velocity). No points were awarded for a council rates payment using Postbillpay and Paypal. Is this normal? (I haven't used Postbillpay for anything else in this statement period.) (The sign-up page for this card only lists ATO as...

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

Oh that's great to know. I literally five minutes ago got notification directly from SQ that the VA-booked SQ flight has been cancelled. I wonder if VA will be proactive in contacting me about the cancellation...

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

I wonder how VA is going to handle award booking cancellations on partner airlines, given the ungenerous attitude to fee waivers/cancellation in general. (I'm on SQ in a few months' time.) Seems unlikely Australia's airlines will follow the sensible approach of a (surprising) number of US and...

A chance to reminisce - who remembers the "old days" of Travel?

In 1978 my family (four of us) moved from London to Australia. We were flying Qantas, and it must have stretched the budget massively, given my dad's income. We got to Heathrow and were informed that one engine had fallen off the 747 in Bombay on its way to London. It was then kinda exciting (I...

Westpac Exclusion Periods: What constitutes "Previous 12 Months"?

Hmmm... Would it be better to avoid the stress/argument at the end and instead contact Westpac early on and say "The approval was more than 365 days after closure of the previous card. Please ensure this is honoured."?

Time for bonus Velocity points to be credited and transferred from Westpac

Much to my surprise, Westpac just let me have a Black card... I can't see info about the waiting time for bonus Velocity points to be awarded after the qualifying spend, but from a few comments in this forum, am I right in thinking that for Westpac: points from spend within a statement period...

Bankwest Qantas World MC 90k bonus, $6k spend in 3 months, $135 first year annual fee, exp 31 August 2019

I'm not sure if this should be split off into a separate post, but for those considering this card, the complimentary travel insurance is being stuffed from 9 Dec. Key changes are the loss of the following sections unless a paid "upgrade" is added. Special event Upgrade only Rental...

JAL business class Melbourne - Tokyo. Is it worth it?

There's monolingual English speakers, and then the rest of the world... (give or take a bit). I would jump for joy if I saw any Australian FA of English-first-language-only background speaking another language competently. It shouldn't be like this, but there's no sign it'll ever change...

Upcoming trip to Taipei – Advice welcome on things to do, transport, food and accommodation options

I guess you didn't enjoy it! The 1% comment seems harsh. I would say a very broad range of Taiwanese speak at least a few words of useful English, and some significantly more. Conversational, not as often, but still... Even in the night (food) markets, many stallholders have had, in my...

Free Credit Card Travel Insurance - coverage for missed connections due to late incoming?

I think I've tried to gather information on this point twice before over the years on AFF with no response. Either people aren't using (trying to use) this insurance feature or are always making their separately ticketed connections.🥳 It's nice to have this report about the Citi cards...

Bankwest Qantas World MC 90k bonus, $6k spend in 3 months, $135 first year annual fee, exp 31 August 2019

So that touch of the file is usually assumed to be an application risk... I suspect @woodyren must look good (for credit) enough that the very recent touch isn't treated by the lenders as a red flag.

Bankwest Qantas World MC 90k bonus, $6k spend in 3 months, $135 first year annual fee, exp 31 August 2019

That's very interesting. I assume that means that the "touch" of the credit file by the lender during an application doesn't show up in the file for some time. I was wondering about this just the other day!

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Well, no, but it's connected to the red kangaroo...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I can confirm that a test on a new card from the west with a kangaroo worked for Canberra: points shown on statement issued a few days ago.

Absolutely. The only part you left out is how long the phone queues are!

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

This is the problem: if you actually talk about cancelling, they aren't legally allowed to incentivise at all under the changes in law. Not a word. What surprised me was that this was the approach taken even when I was careful to talk in terms of "assessing my priorities", "wanting to understand...

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

As my Platinum Edge is almost useless to me now, post-devaluation, I called up today to discuss the fact that my annual anniversary is approaching... Nothing. They were happy to downgrade me to another points-earning card with no/lower fee. They wouldn't negotiate on anything else. "Australian...
