I read this thread in planning my trip and procrastinated a lot before choosing SYD-JFK, mainly for better arrival time and to avoid the AA offering. I must agree with Cabbage that there is no better feeling (at least in flying terms) of cruising over Manhattan and landing at JFK on your home...

There is a lot of talk on these forums about status credits. People seem to spend a lot of time, money and effort researching, planning and travelling in order to attain and maintain status. So how are the status credit thresholds set? Is there some type of definitive formula?

Doesn't at least some of this dilemma stem from the way the status credits system is set up? Unless you travel for consistent amounts year after year, or are unlucky (or lucky) enough to earn status credits close to a status credit tier threshold, you have to plan now for what you think you...
