    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Well, I hope they find it again.

Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243 Crashes in Kazakhstan

It looks like an aircraft that is being flown by manipulation of the power alone, and loss of hydraulics will leave you in that situation. A landing with any survivors at all is a great outcome in that case. Water is not soft, and anyone who survives the impact is in immediate danger of...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Mechanical (and sometimes medical) doesn't necessarily put any huge hurry into things. You could, for instance, have an issue with something that will affect a required approach (i.e. Cat II/III), but which isn't required behind you. And that would mean you might not be able to go on, but...

    Ask The Pilot

That's certainly true, but it also depends upon the cap/hat. I never wore the white monstrosity that's part of the current QF uniform, and took some delight handing it back, still in it's wrapping. Looks terrible, and simply didn't fit (anyone). And the argument goes the other way too. Aprons...

    Ask The Pilot

Unless it’s about a million degrees, ties on. My assumption has been that pilots who look like slobs will fly the same way.

    Flight crew too busy

I guess this is a minor point, but you’re talking about the cabin crew. The flight crew will never respond to your calls, no matter how plaintive.

    Ask The Pilot

You very funny person. In over 30 years of flying for QF, I had very few Xmas days that were free of any involvement with the airline. I never wore the last QF wings. I despised the unform overall, but the wings were especially easy to discard. I even slid some navy wings into the mix for a while.

    Ask The Pilot

There were a couple of systems in use during my time in QF. Most of the time, the sims came up roughly every three months, though later they tried a system with two sessions, a day or so apart, every six months. Because your livelihood depends on getting a tick at the end of the session...

Qantas to outsource ground handling across Australia

Presumably Alan will be personally donating his entire salary to this settlement.

    Spurious check in notification

That was my first thought too, but no links.

    Spurious check in notification

Has anyone ever received a spurious check in notice? Got a message from Virgin today, inviting me to check in for my flight to Melbourne. Only problem is that I'm not flying anywhere any time soon.

ASIC sues Rex for allegedly misleading the market on company's profitability

Didn’t Rex themselves say that the entire premise of the 737 operation was based upon Virgin collapsing, and staying that way. As soon as they were resurrected, it was only a matter of time.

    Ask The Pilot

Boeing had a strange habit of not writing their crosswind limits as hard limits, but they’d describe them as demonstrated limits. Now that simply meant that whatever the number was was the highest that their TPs had seen during the certification program. The effect of this was that some airlines...

    Ask The Pilot

Well, I’d have been squeezing something if I’d been on board. Looking through some of his other videos from that day, and it’s amazing how well most of the aircraft have been handled through the take off or landing. Gusty crosswinds are not easy, and my aim was simply to remain on the black bit...

Emirates Cancels Singapore to Melbourne Flights from 30/3/25

This is the new Qantas....they'll all end up economy.

    Ask The Pilot

RVSM is definitely not allowed without an autopilot. Sometimes with failures what should happen (in terms of what remains available), and what actually happens aren't the same.

Are the days of BigPond Email Account Numbered?

We finished our move away from Telstra a couple of weeks ago. To be honest, I don't know why it took me so long, but their pricing for mobile was becoming ludicrous compared to some alternatives (which use the same network). And I've just been helping a neighbour getting set up with fibre...
