Not sure on the 09, but the 10 Penegal and I shared was very young, with the oak still quite green and drying in the mouth - even with food. Maybe try at the 12 or 15 year mark. They are built to cellar for a long time.

The best I've experienced was an 2002 in 2016. It was magical. I think 12 years might be a bit soon. But it will depend on how you cellar it and how it's been cellared to date. If you have a special occasion in 2021, then go for it. You'll still get all the amazing tastes and textures. But it...

Based on my experience with this great wine of various vintages, I'd say JO has it right. I've opened a few at the 10 year mark, and found it too soon. I'd suggest you open it 2022 - 2025. I'm sure you'll love it when you do open it. They are great wines.
