The March Spontaneous Escapes offers are now live. There's a 40% discount this month, instead of the usual 30%. Most of the Australian routes featured this month are Y only, except SIN-CNS which has J and SIN-SYD has PE.

I'll be in Helsinki (and already have plans here for that day). Unfortunately that's bit far away for a quick status run, even for me ;)

Sounds like you need a better TA? ;) There should be no taxes payable on the second seat because the airline only has to pay the third-party taxes on a per-passenger basis. Is your TA able to see this basic logic or is it one of those useless ones you're forced to use with work?

The wording has not changed since last year (I just checked this). I think the T&Cs you're quoting are very poorly worded by Velocity. But my understanding is that what they intend is that for renewals, you must earn at least 50% of the status credits required to maintain your tier from VA...

It is something that I think about and I do think the OP raises a valid point. It's for this reason that I wonder if Qantas should consider just selling (small amounts of) status credits to negate the need to take unnecessary flights where the sole purpose is retaining a status level...

Actually, I think you’ll be OK as this is a “Fast Track” and not technically a Status Accelerator/Challenge. It’s an exception to the rule. The FAQs on the page you linked are clear:

Not sure which fast track you're referring to, but you might want to check the T&Cs of that offer to make sure that bonus status credits count towards whichever offer you're using.
