I also find the thought of VA going LCC somewhat nightmarish, although the Southwest "low-hassle" model has its appeals. Free bags and (nonalcoholic) drinks, clear boarding process, no change fees, certainly more appealing than JQ or even QF in some cases.

GIven that Melbourne will overtake Sydney in population sometime in the coming decade it certainly makes sense for an airline to be based there, however QLD has fewer big company HQs and will likely fight harder to keep VA in Brisbane.

Wesfarmers do have something of a war chest following the Coles sale without any significant acquisitions since. And if VA were to be Australian-owned then any government assistance (now or future) would be a far easier sell politically.

Just have to sit tight and see what happens I suppose. Would be a bummer to lose the 100k points reserve but it’s been a decent run, think I’ve managed to redeem well over a million in the last few years so no regrets.

My status review date is 10/4 and I would have already requalified for Platinum. Does that mean the status credits I earned in the last 12 months will count towards the next status review (in 2021) at the end of the status extension period? If not, this extension doesn’t help much. Suspect...

Yes, 45k points from a Freedom fare. Availability is generally scarce but I've always had success on the upgrade waitlist.

If you're Velocity Silver you're unfortunately not eligible for points upgrades on long-haul flights. These are available for gold/platinum status and only from Freedom or Premium Economy fares.

I had 1092 points come through the day after my first ride. Presumably 1000 bonus + $46x2 airport ride points. No sign of the platinum bonus however...

I regularly eat elsewhere in SIN then head to the KF Gold lounge for a quiet drink. Far more enjoyable than whatever warmed up leftovers they have on offer.

The T&Cs do indeed state that it is not possible to upgrade. However I have been able to in the past, both with points and via the UpgradeMe bid.

MEL-OOL isn't terrible value either, especially if you use one of the usual discount codes when booking.

Still a fairly solid bonus for that promotion, 2509 points is about 5x what I’ll earn on the actual airfare booked for it!

Be interesting to see if they claw it back, as it's about 10x what I would have expected the bonus to be. Landed 3x for me off the one transfer... :D
