    MEL taxi scam

"Go to Shsnghai or Beijing and hear a 1,000 people asking ‘You want taxi?’ as you walk past - happens in many many destinations but still doesn’t warrant wasting time posting on AFF" In Shanghai or Beijing you don't get a thousand taxi touts. You get a few and typically everyone ignores them...

Korean LCC T'Way Air to rebrand as Trinity Airlines

Trinity Airlines! Will they hand out Bible quotes like they do on Alaska Airlines? Would love to try out if they decided to open a service from MEL.

    MEL taxi scam

Jimmy's Silver Service Taxi? Do I need to prebook in advance? In my experience, Uber and Didi drivers and their vehicles in Melbourne are WAY better than taxi drivers I've encountered (though admittedly the latter don't set a high bar - and that's an understatement).

Strategies for cheap business/premium flights to North America

Yep. After the Masterclass the metagame changed rather abruptly.

    Florence/Tuscany - September

Unfortunately I never took a taxi when I was in Florence. I was too old to go to late night events. I didn't stay in Florence but rather at the hotel opposite the train station in Empoli (which is a 25 minute ride away and the junction for the Siena line - and later my mum stayed there as...

    MEL taxi scam

I would stay a night at the Ibis Budget and THEN go home. My home is in Melbourne.

    MEL taxi scam

If I arrived that late, staying a night at the Ibis Budget would be better than taking a taxi.

    MEL taxi scam

I would take a bus from terminal 4 to Broadmeadows, and then get a train home. I would waste an additional hour but even that is better than taking a taxi in Melbourne.

    MEL taxi scam

"But please Sir, I need to make an income says the Taxi Walla(h)" I've no sympathy at all!

    MEL taxi scam

I refuse to take a taxi in Melbourne. Or Sydney, for that matter. I would rather WALK.

    Which option would you choose?

I reckon SK via CPH would be the most painless.

    General Medical issues thread

The risk factor tool was originally best designed to work for people between the ages of 40 and 75. Above this age, everyone is considered "high risk". Below this age, I believe the numbers aren't that accurate because in my memory the original pool of people they did the work on (in the US)...

Well, your HDL is quite high, so your LDL/nonLDL ratio isn't too bad, although your total cholesterol is obviously high. Statins don't really reduce your cardiovascular risk that much at your age because everyone's cardiovascular risk is so low. Anyway rethinking your diet and exercise will...

Long term Amex user, next move?

Hello, I am a long-term Amex customer over 20 years, and for the past 10 years I have been on the so-called "grandfathered" Amex rewards card. I threaten to quit some years, the last time I did so they gave me 70k of MR points to retain. (They have done so every ~ 2 years until recently). Now...

    Qantas Classic Plus devaluation

The way I look at it, Qantas status is still worth chasing for lounge access and other benefits (but do the math vs. other airlines to see if you get more SCs to advance to oneworld status), using manipulation of cash fares. In terms of their FF program, there are now basically an afterthought...

    General Medical issues thread

I don't think tuberculosis is particularly likely to be transmitted through blood products. Having TB in your lungs is a bit different from having TB sepsis, i.e. bugs in your blood. Those in the latter group would have difficulty physically donating.

    General Medical issues thread

Absolutely. Even if you get treated successfully for TB, not all the mycobateria may be permanently eradicated. If something happens to your immune system that makes it work less well as before, such as chemotherapy, HIV or even plain old aging, your old TB might get reactivated! Or you may...

    Qantas Classic Plus devaluation

Qantas is banking on the fact that probably close to 90 percent of all their frequent flyer members do not know the plain facts about how to redeem their points for the best value and are happy to redeem for a toaster or a Myer voucher. If they can fool that percentage of the people that's...
