I wonder if room service is a loss leader for hotels (despite the fact they charge something like $29 for a sandwich) and just have a bare minimum service to cater for the odd occasion when someone arriving on the red eye needs a feed - maybe they can’t be bothered making it easy and attractive.

Don’t recall this happening in many dozens of flights in the golden triangle, when I’m usually in row 4 (and often just about the only person with a vacant seat next to me). I choose the seat as soon as it’s ticketed too.

I believe the First check in can only check people in for international QF flights - you'll have to go to the domestic terminal to check in as your first flight is domestic.

There will be some issues if you’re an Australian citizen but try to enter/exit Australia on a foreign passport. Agree with the comments about travelling on your Aus passport.

My corporate agent does mixed airline bookings for me sometimes, and in these I see both the QF and VA flights in the QF app. I only get QF lounges and SCs with the QF flights, and VA lounges and SCs with VA.

Rang to get one Y and one J seat released to/from HKG. Both declined by the bot but got successful reviews and releases within a couple of days. Happy with the result and, unlike last time, for the exact dates I wanted.
