    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

I agree. It is less prospective ‘value’ than transferring points to airlines for premium travel now that they’ll be harder to ‘earn’ on the ground. Whilst accommodation offers good utility, it seems like a ‘waste’ to me in comparison.

    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

That’s the problem. That’s about 1.25c per point. Pointy end seats are great but we need somewhere to stay when we get there - don’t have relatives and free accommodation everywhere.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Thanks for the DPs re HSBC US Premier CC. I can see that it does award the bonus points for Coles. Haven't tried WOW yet. IGA (at least Romeos branded) doesn't. HSBC isn't as intuitive at displaying this information - need to go through rewards options but it's there in Online banking. Other...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Did you add it to Apple Wallet (you might be using it in Android which would likely be different) while in the US? I couldn’t add it in AU they said I need to be in the US to do that. If you added in AU, how did you do it?

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I tried to apply with BOA for a checking account - they said they couldn't verify my identity and had to go into a branch. Seems like many US banks need us to go into a branch to prove we're real people. I've found that with Citi and Chase so not wholly surprised BOA is the same.

Amex Centurion Card eligibility in Australia

I think that’s exactly it. It’s a vanity card. The urban legends about it are just that. I can’t get through to my RM directly anymore, god help me if I call outside of AU business hours for help. There’s the dreaded IVR and you get through to Manila. No more UK agents. They definitely are...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Worked. Wish I’d been bolder & bought some $500 Visa GCs with it. Though there aren’t many places to use them in bulk like the ATO anymore.

    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

I use Marriott points for Accommodation. It's not the best use of points but you've gotta stay somewhere when you get there. Guess this needs to be reconsidered once further devals and changes come through. YMMV.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

That’s amazing how efficient HSBC are with card approvals. I had a similar experience when I applied for my Premier CC. I had to reduce my limit to get a home loan. When I applied for an increase, it took about a month or longer and they only made a decision as I had a friend working inside...

    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

They’ve achieved their broad aim which is to get us to use Amex as broadly as Visa and MasterCard and they have merchants which in the main accept Amex. They’ve needed to reduce merchant fees so they don’t get the crucifix out every time we ask ‘do you take amex?’reduced merchant fees = reduced...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Thanks for the heads up. I've activated it on my CSP. Will give it a go - though says has 2 days left on it. Will need to get to it soon.

Taking more notice of the CSP emails. I saw this offer for Aeroplan which might be of interest to those collecting this currency and there's also one for IHG:

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

Logged onto AMEX US to check the Marriott 30% Transfer Bonus was still on (it isn't) and I found this instead which is interesting though may not be a novel find on AFF but I've never seen it before. Amex.point.me - I Recently got a Bonvoy offer for a 3 night stay in a venue at coughet. I was...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Chase locked all my accounts and wanted me to come into the branch as I’d used a VPN. The guy at the branch who is opened them with remembered me and got them unlocked. I now use Chase without a VPN for both the app and website. They send me a code via text to my TextNow number and I can get in...

I looked for availability to Thailand in April over the weekend. None to be seen on SQ or CX.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

In my experience when I held the green card, they did work. My preference would be the green over the gold …. Unless you’re down on the bonus point categories that work in AU within the annual limits work better for you. I think with dining, the difference between 3x and 4x is negligible for my...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Hmm thanks for the heads up. I wonder what others are coming and if other CC providers will follow. It’s gotta be pretty gutsy of Amex to be the first mover here as 1:1 has been the defacto ‘standard’ for a long time across all rewards programs.

HSBC Premier credit card - too good to be true?

I have Expat too as the HSBC UK wouldn't issue a CC to a non-UK resident but Expat would - although it's effectively issued and serviced by HSBC UK - got a small credit limit but it suits my purposes and is AF free - guessing they may get around to it like AU and US have.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Just wanted to post my DP - just tried to recharge a mobile service with OnePass mobile (part of Wesfarmers - one of Australia's largest retailers). I can only use MasterCard and Visa (obviously AMEX is too expensive for such a large retailer to accept) and when I tried to use my CSP, I was...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

How much are you spending on your USD card(s)? If it works out to a certain amount a month, then just buy that quantity in USD for your US CC settlements. Probably just over-thinking it. FX losses are a real potential esp if our Pacific Peso nosedives dramatically and in the very short term...
