Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

Sorry, that should have been 494 status points, so just 6 off Gold. One week later, she lost 36 points from October 2023 so a simple flight to/from Sydney wouldn't get her back to 500 points. We weren't consciously aiming for Gold because we didn't realise that it could have been within her...

Case Study: How Matt books flights to Europe

We're retired so number of days for a journey isn't important and my wife hates really long flight so Matt's approach is very much what we do. Because the BNE-HNL flights have been discontinued, we even flew to the USA via SIN, DOH and DUB. I noticed his comment about not being loyal to one...

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

My wife and I are retired and travel a lot, nearly all international and on lots of different airlines to some out of the way places. We hadn't realised that my wife was getting close to Velocity Gold until they sent her an email that said she was on 394 status credits, just 6 short of gold...

    Article: Emirates fifth-freedom routes

Soon after the Airbus 380 was introduced, I wanted to fly on it but it was only used on long haul flights, which my wife couldn't cope with due to claustrophobia. Then Emirates introduced the A380 to its fifth freedom BNE-AKL. My wife gave me some of her points, which I used to get BNE-AKL...

Changes to CBA Travel Insurance Activation

I was confident that the words said this but not 100% that it was what CBA meant.

Changes to CBA Travel Insurance Activation

There was a discussion about exactly when the CBA changes came into force. Last year, I had activated two policies for trips from 29th Feb to April and July to September 2024. Some people interpreted the new rules to mean that you had to spend $500 for any trips starting after 7th Feb while I...

Lets talk about the 787 windows

My wife is claustrophobic so does very well to fly at all (we fly internationally 10-20 times a year). She deals with this by always having a window seat and leaving the blind open when it's daytime. There have been occasions when the crew have asked for them to be closed but she refused. So...

Changes to CBA Travel Insurance Activation

Agreed. We've just had Air Canada split a single booking for two people into four separate transactions, none of which reach the $500.

Changes to CBA Travel Insurance Activation

The original statement is clear: either activating and/or travelling will do. It's the article that confuses things by leaving out the "or". I'm not sure yet how badly this will affect me but I've already activated it for five trips from tomorrow to next August.

    UK Departure Tax to increase

Just looked to see if I could fly in and out of Paris to avoid the APD but, despite it being included in the fares, a return to Paris was $200 dearer than to London and an open jaw was another $200 dearer. So many things are different in this post-Covid era.

AFF Review: AirAsia X A330 Economy Quiet Zone (AKL-SYD)

I would get to the very end of the process, having selected seats and chosen meals then it would just give me a circle of death and never finalise the booking. I tried different browsers, different computers, even trying with a wireless connection and got the same result every time. I tried...

AFF Review: AirAsia X A330 Economy Quiet Zone (AKL-SYD)

I'm glad you were able to make the booking. Because Air NZ had reneged on their claim to be having year round MCY-AKL flights, we wanted to fly SYD-AKL on Air Asia X in December 2022. After many, many attempts at making the booking online and trying to phone Air Asia here or in KL, we gave up...

Return flight without leaving the airport

I actually did this several years ago, when A380s were still new. I wanted to go on one but my wife has claustrophobia and can't do long flights, which was where A380s were used. Then Emirates introduced DXB-BNE-AKL so she gave me some points for me to fly Economy BNE-AKL and I used some of...

Qantas announces intention to acquire the remaining 80% of Alliance (ASX:AQZ)

We've had some really good deals with Alliance from the Sunshine Coast to Cairns, Canberra and Ayers Rock. I can't see Qantas prices/offers matching Alliance.

    KrisFlyer Points expiry extension

I'm really glad that AFF has taken up the issue of KrisFlyer points expiry. As mature (aka 70+) leisure flyers, we find it difficult to get enough points to actually obtain any worthwhile flights or upgrades. I've contacted SIA a few times but only got unhelpful generic responses. A few years...

    Openflights vs MyFlightRadar24

Loading the missing aircraft (and some earlier missing flight numbers) is taking ages. However, it has shown up some mistakes and missing flights so I think it's worthwhile.

    Openflights vs MyFlightRadar24

After clearing the incorrect flights, the import of my flights was relatively straightforward apart from a 1967 flight shown as 2067 - I'll be 116 then! and three flights failing to load as the airport codes somehow had an extra X at the end. Now I just need to go through and add the aircraft...

    Openflights vs MyFlightRadar24

Having deleted (one at a time) the 148 flights that had the wrong dates, thanks to MFR24 not interpreting normal dates, I experimented with moving the AFF columns to match the MFR24 columns myself but it didn't seem to make any difference - still no aircraft types.

    Openflights vs MyFlightRadar24

    I've noticed that the AFF exported spreadsheet and the MFR24 exported spreadsheets have the data in different columns (I'm hoping my spacing survives posting): Date FL# From To Dur Line Craft Dist Cl Reas MFR24: A B C D G H I ? M N AFF: A D B C G E L F J K There's obviously some...

Just seen bigchin's post and that helps. Still no import of aircraft types.
