    QANTAS Cyber Incident

This is an area that many organisations do not adequately control. A couple of times when Bank systems have not returned account records via the desktop, I have tried the phone app. Once I was told by a bank that I had too many sessions open, and would not allow access via the phone until I...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Still waiting on my third email, but Mrsoatek got hers' yesterday. Unlikely that they have more on Mrsoatek than myself, as all QF travel in recent years has been together, but who knows. So at the lower end for Mrsoatek: -Name -Email address -Frequent flyer # -Tier -DoB -Phone number (prob...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

I think we can all agree that the hack came from a known threat vector. What we don't know was what risk assessments had been carried out knowing the potential for such a threat, and whether too little was done to prevent the hack. But we can reasonably posit that not enough was done - the data...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Now revised down to only 5.7m. There is a lot we do not know about how Manilla accesses the Salesforce instance, where its located, and what access levels they are afforded. As others have said, it could be anywhere, hosted in AWS or by Salesforce through their SaaS offerings. Many in business...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Yes, this will also hasten my move away from the ISP of several decades, and given that is Optus I have probably been far to slow to start the process.

    I'm over (most) lounges

Which probably also tells you how long since the lounges were upgraded/modernised, compared to the commercial outlets in the terminal.

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

There may be key network architecture issues at play in this together with authentication differences. For someone to log in with the "hacked" credentials suggests a lack of MFA. Where you are in the corporate network could see different security layers applied. And Salesforce as a SaaS provider...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

What is important here is that QF allowed the data to be stolen through their cost-cutting offshoring exercise, and we are just lucky that (at present) we do not need to provide driver's licence information for our booking transactions, or it would also have been stolen.

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Got the email saying my data was accessed. Had already assumed it was as had a couple of unavoidable interactions with Manilla.

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Oh, I think that is harsh! I am sure they monitor the storage requirements for the collected data! How much gets read, yes that is the question. Assume a growing involvement of AI in SIEM review, but where QF are up to is anybody's guess.

    I'm over (most) lounges

Is this really a question of familiarity breeding contempt? I must admit I didn't have any problems finding a comfortable spot and some decent coffee and pastries at Changi recently when I didn't have lounge access for a morning departure. But when at Gatwick in the North Terminal, a zoo of...

Would you fly at a less convenient time to get a nicer plane?

If just flying say SYD-SIN or SIN-SYD, when Y will do, I will look at day flights. I prefer the older B777 SQ aircraft, even when they leave quite early in the morning, than waiting for the A380, particularly when I can snag a two-seater up the back. When flying into EU/UK we prefer J, and I...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

GaryBpilot seems very interested in this line of enquiry about when/how engine fuel lines can be shut automatically:

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

I know eye witnesses can be totally unreliable, but the guy who escaped from seat 11A talked about flickering lights and a load bang. The loud bang might have been hitting the first building or other object, but ultimately will need to be explained. The flickering light - could that be related...

Jetstar Asia to shutdown on 31 July 2025

QF seem stuck between protecting their main brand on routes such as SYD-SIN, and the obvious public demand for LCC options. Hence they won't let JQ compete out of SYD to SIN and we are more likely to see Scoot increase flights.

Jetstar Asia to shutdown on 31 July 2025

I must say that as I taxied past T4 on SQ211 the other day I thought how sad and isolated the LCCs over there looked, including a couple of JetStar aircraft. I am sure that the move there did not help their attempts to achieve profitability.
