I still see the request for visual separation as a negative - not trying to blame, but more in the "we always do that" when the army flyer said the crew was so safety conscious. A small part of a bigger problem, but that is my view. I get it that the whole tragedy was set in motion by the comms...

The only negative that stood out for me was the determination of the copter pilots to request visual separation. And the big take-out safety wise was ATC not holding them short as the ex-army pilot sais happened many times to him.

We also enjoyed our upstairs Y in the SQA380, but that was somewhere pre-2012. It is somewhat different to board an EK 2-class A380, and do the long tramp through upstairs economy to get to the J section at the rear (placed there for the sake of the bar area).

Don't disagree, and the seemingly automatic response from the Helo to go visual seems to a non-pilot like me an outcome of long use of that system.
