"The perfect destination for everyone" - is that even possible?

The answer to this really depends on where you are now (ie living). Exotic to some is ho hum to others and can depend on where else you have visited. But let's say you are living in a major Australian city then for many it would be a tropical destination / island - can you really go past North...

Aeroplan (Air Canada) is now selling points

Expecting more than 2 award seats on any flight, even in Y, is very optimistic. If you are 4+ travelling you should considering splitting your party onto 2 flights. Also as @levelnine posted above - SQ availability to AC is not the same as to their own members (on a few occasions I have seen...

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Well some people are excited by this - I just tried to logon to my account to see if some Classic awards had been made available (for a friend travelling in Sept/Oct to Europe) - can't even login - system too busy.:(

Aeroplan (Air Canada) is now selling points

IMO - the very best value for using AC points is Australia - Asia when most cities/routings are 45,000 one-way in business class (can go as highs 60,000 depending on destination/routing) - SQ flights are very available (compared to other programs). Domestic awards on Virgin are the worst value.

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

T&Cs stated non-refundable and I only discovered this error yesterday when the incorrect booking dates had already gone past so we were essentially no-shows. I was a bit surprised we did not receive an e-mail. The agency was "EnjoyTravel" in Majorca - not exactly a major company. Fortunately the...

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

Oh dear - while double checking all trip doco for our trip to Spain (Majorca and the Canaries) from April 10 I noticed that Mr LL had booked and pre-paid (non-refundable) one of the hire cars for March not April. (Thanks goodness it wasn't my mistake )

    Long transit in Doha

Essentially we just want something that is hassle free and relaxing. I don't fancy waiting in a long line for a VOA at midnight but would like a good night's sleep and somewhere to while away a few hours before returning to the QF F lounge.

    Long transit in Doha

Thanks for that - I just re-checked with QR re free transit hotel - and no dice unless it's QR issued ticket. But thanks I'll check the Oryz (and other) hotels - just wondered if anyone had a recommendation and info on transfers/taxis (I read in one post (some/all?) taxis only take cash which we...

    Long transit in Doha

We arrive in Doha around midnight and depart the following day at 8PM - we are travelling on an award ticket (issued by AA) MAD-DOH (J) - DOH-SYD (F). I tried to request a transit hotel via the QR website but it does not work (won't let me complete the nationality field) so cannot be submitted...

Resilient is my middle name - Christmas with Virgin Voyages

Just one more thing - our concierge did come through for us a couple of times - securing a restaurant booking when everything was fully booked (brunch) and bookings for a couple of shows. Also - I failed to mention we found the service to be excellent - prompt and friendly at all venues.

Resilient is my middle name - Christmas with Virgin Voyages

@bPeterb and @asterix - I guess I was mistaken about soft drinks (since I rarely drink them) - and some food was in fact OK. Our usual cruise lines are Ponant, SIlversea, Seabourn and Scenic so you are right our expectations were probably quite different than perhaps many other guests. For those...

Resilient is my middle name - Christmas with Virgin Voyages

Hum - I was also onboard and have a different opinion - I guess we're (MR LL and I) are just a different demographic. We "splurged" on a Rock Star Suite which was a great cabin - 50 sq meters with a great bathroom - we felt the decor was too dark but that's the Virgin theme. A few of the...

Buying FF points - General discussion

I've purchased points/miles for many years - got on the band wagon back when US Airways was selling miles, then AA when they merged with US Air, then the in the heyday of LifeMiles - these options are pretty much dead due to cost of miles (AA) and LM has become totally hopeless. In more recent...

    Amex Rejection earning $300k

One more thing to consider here (unless the AmEx call centre already provided this information) is your credit history on one of the credit bureau may be incorrect. This happened to a friend of mine who was rejected by ANZ for a loan (details don't really matter here) - turned out one of the...

    YVR Insights

Is there anyway you could change your YVR-SEA flight to fly the night before then get an airport hotel at SEA? I'd also agree 3 hours prior to your flight is overkill - not even sure check-in would be open.
