Paris - Sydney is available on points with EY/VA, Sydney - Brisbane available well. Won't come up as one online and call centre says they have to do 2 separate bookings unless I pay the amount of points required for each individual leg. Surely this is wrong?

So you used to be able to get a domestic flight BNE - SYD say 20 October, fly back to Brisbane on a separate booking, then do SYD - LAX 20 December on the same ticket as your 20 October flight and the system would price it as though you were leaving in October which is a much lower and cheaper...
