    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Has anybody had any experience checking in early in BKK? Looks like I'll be stuck there for 6 hours between flights, doesn't seem like long enough to do anything meaningful in town. SQ seem to have a flight every few hours, so I'm hoping the check in desks are permanently manned and I can while...

Does anybody know if the A380 J bulkhead seats are made available to non status passengers for selection at some point in the days leading up to each flight? Would love to give the double bed a go.

    NT in July/August - ideas?

At least one of the resort hotels in Uluru is under renovations at the moment. Half of the restaurants are shut due to lack of staff. I saw the job board a couple of weeks ago, about 90 different roles being advertised, many of them with multiple positions available. Take a fly net.

    USA Canyons

I did the same trip (minus the Grand Canyon) in Jan/Feb this year and, although Zion had a light dusting, Bryce was the only place that was properly snowy. The whole route is a photographer's dream, particularly Antelope Canyon. I was a bit disheartened when we arrived there and saw how many...

Airlines eye new slots at Haneda (Tokyo)

I do have a connecting flight in NRT (with less than half the connection time now required). Was told by Qantas that their request for accommodation on my behalf was rejected by JAL, and I should contact JAL directly to get them to put something in writing that I could use to claim the costs on...

Airlines eye new slots at Haneda (Tokyo)

So much for that, had the return confirmed overnight. Japanese efficiency at its finest. Still would have preferred to be switched to QF and not gotten home a day late, but will make the most of 24 hours in Tokyo...

Airlines eye new slots at Haneda (Tokyo)

Same story for me today. The QFF guy said he'd make a request to JAL for accommodation to be provided. They've already rejected it and we were advised to contact them directly to get that in writing and make a claim on insurance. We got lucky, the flight into HND the day before was available...

No more removing Laptops and LAGS from carry-on bags at MEL [T4 only] as new scanners roll out

Don't worry, the security staff had no idea what they were doing either when I went through T4 on Monday... It looks promising though. The body scan part is fast and they have several manned consoles per scanner so they don't have to wait for the result of the last person before scanning the next.

Credit Card Offers Amex Explorer: 50,000 bonus Amex points

It's currently 60k with a referral, which I'd be more than happy to provide! I think it was 100k a few months ago, but that was the first time in well over a year I'd seen it that high.

Travel card? debit card or credit card?

ING debit card is my new go to, no fees and they even refund you any fees that the overseas bank/atm might charge you. Only downside is this is a rolling monthly benefit, which assumes you've paid $1000 into the account as well as made 5 transactions with the card in the previous month. The...
