That portal is horrendous and hasn't worked properly in a long time. I had to call to check availability + get it ticketed. This along with the limited number of routes you can redeem for significantly reduces the value of the amex velocity plat in my opinion.

I've been patiently waiting to see if the doc review passes without intervention, as success rates from calling seem to be next to zero - so far that strategy is not working! The review is still "in progress"... I'll give it a few more days before running the gauntlet with the call centre.

Yes and also interestingly, the pre-approval tool for the VX now also asks the same question, but allows the application to proceed even if you say no to being a citizen or resident - was not expecting that!

I tried the Cap1 VX credit card pre-approval tool again today and much to my surprise, it responded in the positive! The only verification requested is identification - but they specifically asked for state issued ID, so it'll be interesting to see whether a passport upload is sufficient.

Haven't seen one posted for the Chase IHG One Rewards Premier, but imo it's a nice keeper as you're guaranteed to get something tangible for/commensurate to the fee you pay - for the $99 annual fee, you get IHG platinum status, one free 40K night every year, ~2.5% return on travel bookings...

Interesting! I had no issues adding my US Amex to the PayPal AU account, but the Chase card just refused to work. I followed PayPal's advice here and created a US account, which solved it for me. There's a minor side benefit to all of this - PayPal US seems to push out more offers than AU; so...

If the problem is not being able to add a US billing address, the solution is to create a brand new PayPal US account using a different email address - I've come to learn that PayPal accounts are country specific!
