April 14 - Blenheim Gardens (1/2) It’s a bit hit and miss. The formal gardens and folly’s was very interesting but the walked garden n butterfly house while sounding interesting was completely almost barren. The butterfly house was not signposted at all. But here also in the gardens the Harry...

April 14 - Blenheim 1/3 This was the most disappointing of all my visit because it’s a very grand and impressive house & amazing if only I could enjoy uninterrupted without the mannequin and dolls dressed with the clothings of British designers that has taken up all the rooms as part of a...

April 14 - Oxford Discovered that the museum is free to enter. Some nice pieces in there and a few more colleges from the outside and an abandoned churchyard right in town that probably can serve as inspiration for The Woman in Black 👻👻

April 14 - Oxford before heading to Blenheim palace. Quick early morning walk around Oxford before we headed off to our actual reason for staying the night here. It being term holidays no colleges or anything else was opened to the public. But the usual suspects were enjoyed from the outside.

April 13 - Chatsworth Gardens (1/2) Another highlight is the gardens. Just a work of art using the landscape to great effect the highlights are the emperor fountain. It was built over several centuries by several architects / landscapers among which include capability brown and Paxton.

April 13 - Chatsworth House 2/3 A perfect example of English Baroque and Italianate architecture built progressively over several centuries. Only dropping some of the highlights of some of the staterooms. I really enjoyed this visit as was well organised. The car park to house was easy access...

April 13 - Chatsworth House (1/3) This was the most impressive and beautiful in terms of the stately homes I’ve chosen to visit. The painted hall is something else in a private home as compared to the Vatican.

April 12 - continuing rest of the day onto Castle Howard (1/2) A great home to visit as they were designed by John Vanbrugh (not completed in his lifetime) and Nicholas Hawksmoor (garden monuments) The dome was the key attraction. It was rebuilt after being burnt down in 1940 to the original...

Sorry did not stay local. Even had to bypass Durham which is a wonderful place to visit I’ve been told. Opted for York to get closer to Castle Howard which was my next destination.
