    Qantas' New A321XLR

Yep, HKG is a huge cargo hub, particularly to/from China, but for Australia specifically to/from Europe. Cathay carry a lot to/from Australia (50,000t). Tasman are also significant (16,000t), mostly for DHL. That said, HKG is still smaller than SIN for QF (19,000t) and US (21,000t). These are...

Qantas' Impending Change to Tokyo Flight Schedule

Last time they buried it deep in the website and didn't send it out via email as it wasn't inviting public comment or an outcome of public comment. Plenty of people check it regularly for other reasons, so we'll know pretty quickly if/when they do receive an extension.

    Qantas' New A321XLR

Indeed, but they're still carrying huge loads on the pax flights. In 2019, they carried 12,000t inbound on pax flights, however they had much larger capacity with the additional BNE-HKG and 2nd daily SYD-HKG. With pax demand to/from HKG way down, and thus half the pax flights, the freighter has...

    Qantas' New A321XLR

Qantas carried 15,000 tons of cargo inbound from Hong Kong over the last 12 months. They ain't switching Hong Kong to a narrowbody!

But there's no difference with the actual doors. It's just inactivated. The door is there and just covered with a panel and slide removed. Activating it is just a matter of hours. Adding a toilet requires structural changes to floor and plumbing below the floor and is weeks of work.

    Qantas' New A321XLR

Correct, they rotate through, so will spend several days in NZ before operating a scheduled sector back to Aus. JQ also have crew bases in NZ that operate those domestic sectors.

    Qantas' New A321XLR

First three production slots were originally Jetstar's. Qantas pinched the slots after the deadline for this customer specific choice had passed.

    Qantas' New A321XLR

100%. It would probably mess with the scheduling of the NZ based crew on the B737-800s. So somewhat difficult to sub in the XLR for a B737-800 without a major schedule rejig. FWIW, no AKL base for the A321 FDC as yet, although that's inevitable over time.

    Qantas' New A321XLR

Yes, A220 taking over from E190/B738 on BNE-WLG. This was somewhat expected given the E190's payload restrictions on the route. There was some suspicion when it started that it was just a placeholder. No scheduling of XLR's across the ditch yet and nothing in any of the recent announcements...

    Qantas' New A321XLR

Schedule builds up in the following days. Generally 2x daily SYD-PER-SYD and 4x daily SYD-MEL-SYD. Showing as 32Q in reservations system with a note "subject to government and regulatory approval"!

    Qantas' New A321XLR

From what I've heard is that it was the CASA proving flight yesterday, but the seats might still be awaiting EASA certification (which is a somewhat seperate issue). No clarity on the seat issue yet.

    Qantas' New A321XLR

Yeah, Airbus and Boeing played chicken on this with the Max and Neo. Both knew they needed the new wing but would only do it if the other did, and in the end, neither did.
  13. E

    Qantas' New A321XLR

Good spot. The wings are tiny! A321 has the same wing as the A320 and A319, which is why it's somewhat range limited without the additional fuel tanks on the LR or XLR. Same wings, same fuel, despite needing more. Engines on the neo are much bigger than the ceo, and also mounted somewhat more...

    “new” QF B737-800s

Conceptually, although initial registrations for ferry flights don't typically include this and are updated later. The web version rarely includes later updates unfortunately (just go and look at the details for QF's A330s!!!) For example, X3P which has come over from Jetstar Asia is leased from...

    “new” QF B737-800s

I've seen it reported in different places as a lease and purchase, so who knows. We'll know soon enough, but nevertheless, the same applies that any pre-delivery work would get capitalised and thus tax and cashflow implications. Some similarities, but some differences. Aircraft are already...

    “new” QF B737-800s

Not necessarily. Depends on lease terms but also whatever work is done pre-delivery gets capitalised into the lease which can result in downstream tax or financial reporting complications. I suspect they want as little as possible capitalised into the lease. My experience is that most larger...

    “new” QF B737-800s

A great example of why airlines typically don't make short term fleet planning decisions like this, favouring sticking with their long term plans. Heavy maintenance schedules are mapped out well in advance, limiting ad hoc work to more pressing AOG issues. A lot of heavy maintenance is...

Qantas boosts international capacity, wet lease Finnair aircraft

Yes, subject to sunsetting the wetleasing. Finnair crew wanted supplements for longer multiday slips that weren't originally contemplated in their prior bargaining agreement.

Qantas boosts international capacity, wet lease Finnair aircraft

Apologies, didn't mean it from that perspective. Manila is one of the earlier A330s to arrive (6:40am STA) and thus typically turns for one of the earlier northbound Asian departures (e.g. HKG at 10:20am or HND at 11:05am). It very rarely turns to SIN with the exception of the 1x/week A330-200...

Qantas boosts international capacity, wet lease Finnair aircraft

Somewhat of a surprise, but they've got to go somewhere! Still nothing in the published schedule though.
