It does say per person per booking but I assumed it means each way. Never done this so I better call them to make sure. If that's the case it would mean 1600 dollars in savings so I might give it a try.

There is a section on the Qantas that redirects you to AirBnB and then you're supposed to book within that session without closing the browser. Not sure if it will work though, been waiting on those 3.4k points for two weeks. I know the feeling though, I booked family flights to the US for 6.4k...

Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better. My worry is that the inbound flight will be on time but it will still take to much time to clear all checks to make the outbound flight. I am not sure in that case what is Qantas's policy.
