They wouldn't tell me clearly. From what I can deduce, There was something wrong with the initial issued PNR, as eventually they had to cancel the booking, refund all the points, and then create a new one. I'm quietly hopeful that adding segments will not be any trouble now.

A quick update and thanks to people who helped me sort out the J OWA for 2 people - logged over 30 hours on the phone over dozens of calls and a lot of frustration. Multiple emails got no response but I got a response from Hobart via email not 24 hours after sending my summary story to rewards...

This is what I'm feeling as well.. they pick up very fast but it's not the centre I'm looking for. I've been told that Hobart are a 7am-5pm centre but I see others successfully making contact as late as 10pm. Will keep trying I guess!

Yes totally agree - a valid booking would automatically cap at 318k. And I guess that's their entire basis for saying that it mustn't be valid. They can't identify what the issue is however. When someone else in this thread said they had an issue with the initial PNR not being issued correctly...

Yes purely availability since we have a J reward anyway and AA doesn't include luggage on Y. Not even against doing a Y sector at all. It's more so that if we can't even do this added sector, I expect future sectors will be just as much headache...
