Pretty much as per the title - I'm interested in finding out the best places to get 5% off Coles Gift cards (or Coles group cards). We already know of a couple of places, but they either charge a credit card surcharge and / or don't accept AMEX.

Ideally I'd be able to purchase these on a AMEX Plat Edge with 3ppd same as the Entertainment Book Wish gift cards.

The places I know of that sell Coles group ones are:

AGL Rewards (you need to be a customer) - 1% CC surcharge (AMEX not accepted) and you need to pay for postage (for non eGift Cards)
Rewards Gateway (a friends employers scheme) - 1.5% CC surcharge (AMEX accepted) free postage

My question is, are there any better deals out there that people are willing to share? Particularly interested if anyone knows of a place offering 3ppd on the Edge!

Well blueythecat you have not been knocked over with a rush of responses.
My sister in law works in a not for profit in Perth and her deal has a credit card surcharge and some delivery cost so I haven't troubled my credit card for this one.
I am hoping someone has a better plan.

This hadn't escaped me; I'd assumed everyone was enjoying their cheap Christmas eWISH wine and weren't planning on get back online until it was all gone :)

Or perhaps we are the only two AFF'rs interested in discounted Coles gift cards? If anyone knows of any better deals they are willing to share there is at least two of us interested.

I get mine from our union office, 5% off. Coles gift cards only, not Coles group. Pay on Virgin Money Visa, 1ppd, no surcharge or delivery, get them on the spot. I never pay a surcharge just to get points, it's not worth it. Only get about $400per month.

My main spend is on wish, $1000pm, apart from December when it was $5000 with the 10% off. Haven't got Plat edge yet, will as the Wish start to run out.

That's a pretty good deal, certainly better than anything I can get at the moment. Do you know, is your union selling them as part of the Ambassador Card program or just by themselves?

Btw Happy New Year to everyone!

My company is with Reward Gateway and has the Coles gift cards for 5% off with no CC surcharge (and no shipping fee). AMEX allowed too, but the payment gets processed by Reward Gateway so no supermarket bonus points for Plat Edge. They've recently started doing the Coles eGift cards too, but they are more difficult to use than the Woolworths equivalent (for me at least):

- The easiest way is to print out the barcode in the email they send you with the egift card, however, this requires you to print out something and put it in your wallet
- I've tried scanning the PDF on my phone screen but it didn't seem to work
- There is an alternative to the barcode, which is manually typing the gift card number into the system. However, unlike the WISH egift cards which have a truncated 10 digit card number for you to type, the Coles one is actually 13 digits longer(!!) than your usual gift card number. So you'll be required to type in a 30 digit card number followed by a 4 digit PIN.

Not sure what program...we don't get ambassador card as a benefit....but they may have a national setup they get bulk cards thru.

I am looking forward to getting plat edge and getting 3x pts for Entertainment Book wish cards. Probably March as that will be the end of the BigW cards, and 6 months since last cc application (rinse / repeats)

On a sad note, have lost 3500 QFF when I cancelled NAB before 12 months was up....didn't want to argue on the annual fee charge, and the closure letter was quite specific in saying you ain't getting any points not already credited.

HNY to all as well.

Interesting. My friends Reward Gateway program charges a 1.5% CC surcharge

A little tip for those Coles eGift cards, I can get them to scan if I add them to an IOS app called Key Ring (I take a photo of the pdf barcode) and then scan the barcode this app produces under the special FlyBuys scanner Coles checkouts have. Saves typing in that massive number!!!

Sorry I've just been stalking for an answer as well. Mrs Excel only has access via her professional association's ambassador card program which has a surcharge.

I used to have access via the 'API Lifestyle' rewards program my previous employer used; they had no surcharge on Visa/MC but did on Amex. Unfortunately, I'm now locked out of that!

Just to add to the thread... So if I get an entertainment book (I'm assuming it's a paid service), I can get the woolies cards at a discount and still get 3PPD on plat edge? Seems like a good deal.

That said... Coles would be a better option!

Surprisingly few options so far.

Does anyone know anything about the Presidential Card???

Rewards Gateway / API Lifestyle seem to have some funny and quite random credit card surcharging, ranging from none on all cards, to none on VISA/MC and 1.5% on all cards. Very weird.

That's correct

RACWA have the same portal to the wish card store - not sure if RACQ or NRMA do over east as well? If you're a member could be worth checking their online stores

Seems the Presidential Card does offer Coles gift cards (both eCards and the plastic kind), but there is probably a CC surcharge - apparently it is 1% for Visa and MC (no AMEX).

For those following this thread, I thought it was time for a quick summary on where the thread has got to regarding buying Coles gift cards at 5% off.

Accepting AMEX / VISA & MC:

  • Rewards Gateway & API Leisure & Lifestyle (and subsidiaries) - 0% CC surcharge - 1.5% CC surcharge
Accepting only VISA & MC:

  • Some union offerings - 0% CC surcharge
  • AGL Rewards - 1% CC surcharge
  • Ambassador Card - 1% CC surcharge
  • Presidential Card - 1% CC surcharge (e-Gift card available)
Accepting Platinum Edge at 3pp$:
  • None known
Tips for scanning Coles e-Gift cards at the register:

  • Import pdf gift cards into an smartphone app (I use the iOS app Key Ring)
  • Scan smartphone app using the dedicated FlyBuys scanner at the checkout

If you know if any better deals, or I've missed one, feel free to post back :-)

Nurses get access through salary sacrificing in Perth according to an associate. My SIL is in a not for profit and she can get them too.
Both of these have credit card charges.

Not a bad deal, especially if they are coming out of pre-tax money!

Upon further investigation it looks like some of the Rewards Gateway / API options that have a CC surcharge are free for VISA/MC debit cards. That's great I thought, but I don't have a debit card and I won't earn any points either....

That is until I remembered that thing called the QCC, which I'd always considered to be a waste of space. They don't seem to charge a CC surcharge for it and I guess it will earn points.

Keep the ideas rolling in!

Yes many get up to $30,000 salary sacrifice so getting Coles 5% off less a cc fee still works because it is powered by tax exempt money.
If I could do this I would be about 53% better off on $30,000.
We get to play the Frequent Flyer game instead.
