SQ F or J? How do you fly?

the flight is mid december so still a while away. Its booked for my wife and the youngest to be in suites and me with the 6yr old and 7 yr old to be in J. Could end up with me going to suites + either the 6 or 7 yr old if the youngest is causing trouble and wants to be with a sibling.
Wasn't planning for the parents to be up front and the kids to be in J, if they were over 12 then that would be definitely what we'd be aiming for.

I've tried to convince my wife to let me upgrade her to Suites. I've honestly married the wrong woman - she said no! I offered to take one for the team and upgrade myself, but she simply gave me "the look". Oh well, slumming it in J it is.

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Living in Perth we get about 5 hours in J and about 13 hours in Suites regardless of whether it is London or Los Angeles as our destination.

I'm having the same debate. we have enough points for 2 x rtn AU-EU suite redemptions, but +1 is more interested in saving the points for other flying. I'll have to look closer at the relevant point costs, but I do see her side of the argument.......be lavished on a once in lifetime suite experience, or fly in comfort a lot more regularly in J......

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yes one of my family has always travelled business class on Kris Flyer Miles Saver and he flies his girlfriend in the same class. He goes to Paris, south of France on the TGV and the Eurostar to London as his main destinations. He loves the south of France and he goes surfing at Biarritz. Convincing an older brother that Suites is the way to go has not happened. He just books business class each time on Kris Flyer miles MEL-SIN-CDG.
What he says about the French and English who live in his area of Bayonne is that they are friendly and want to socialise. Tradesmen have almost no work so they do jobs at lower than half Melbourne prices.

To be quite honest, while I find Suites/F to be a brilliant experience, but when you've got SQ J as good as it is, there's just no need. And I'd do it partly for the ground experience at SIN which you don't get if you're transiting. Everyone's different, but F for me is about the fun of it. Trying each F product once or twice is enough... (please don't hurt me!!! ;)). J on SQ as my regular mode? Pretty okay with that!

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

The gentleman says he would be happy to travel J rather than F. Lucky for me J savers are usually not available but F savers are! :D

I agree with mrsmart - we flew Suites/F SYD SIN DXB last year and it was all a bit hit and miss. The F lounge at SYD was closed for refurb and so the J lounge was chaos, the service SYD SIN was a bit underwhelming - we seemed to have our invisible cloaks on. TPR on arrival in SIN was excellent and service F SIN DXB outstanding. No TPR invitations issued at either SYD or SIN just a line at the bottom of the boarding pass.

In November we are flying HND SIN SYD with a 2 night stopover and while there was availability in J I booked F just for the hell of it so we could enjoy dinner on arrival in the TPR but, after this, I would probably only choose F if there was no availability in J.

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

CE the Chateau Pichon Comptesse le Lande is my favourite Bordeau (red) on any airline in F in the world.
Almost every flt when in F I wander up or back to J cabin to check / sample their plonk offerings also - here are the reds on SIN-PVG last Sun:

OMG again the quality of the Bordeaux and Chianti reds in SQ J just superb! And I was catered to by such a lovely group of younger crew members than one finds up in pointy end - in fact they looked after me 'Like I was a motherless foal!'

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I'm definitely of the mindset that (as much as I'd like to experience F / Suites on SQ) I'd rather have a number of flights in J than only a few in F or Suites. It's a personal thing though - especially as I don't fly as often as I used to so don't rack up the miles as quickly.

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

The freedom of travelling on your own sometimes eh?!?!

I tend to fly J so i getm ore flights, but with the AA devaluation and then VA moving EY up to a higher point requirement i have booked several F class flights on MH, QF, EY plus found a few ways using QF points to sample a bit of EK F... At the moment i am weighing up doing an SQ suites booking next year as well...

But after that it will probably be mostly back to J for me as it often plenty good enough... But nice to have had a few F experiences... :)

I'm definitely of the mindset that the more I fly the better I feel mentally and physically.

Economy it is then with the occasional intrusion into the business class cabin. ;)

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I have about 75k KF miles to burn. I'm wondering if I should fit in a DEL/BOM-SIN-HND/NRT in Suites for 71k (but fuel surcharges galore!!!) for getting 2 men's Ferragamo sets and (if I ask nicely enough), perhaps 2 ladies' Ferragamo sets too. Or MNL-SIN-SYD for 64k in Suites and zero fuel surcharges but only max 2 Ferragamos :( Decisions, decisions.

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

DEL-SIN has R - BOM-SIN F only but YES you will get amenity kit - MNL-SIN F also and no amenity kit due to short flt.

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

BOM-SIN SQ424 is also operated by an A380. I'm just wondering whether the extra kits are worth US$200 and 7k KF miles more. Plus BOM/DEL-SIN and SIN-HND/NRT don't have waitlists, but SIN-SYD/AKL usually needs waitlisting.

Am I reading this correctly - you are going to use 75k points and spend $$ in taxes just to get the Ferragamo amenity packs? If so, have you thought about buying them from eBay - several new packs available in both men's and women's.

Yes almost right - BOM-SIN 380 is 423 / SIN-BOM 380 is 424 - how did I miss that.

You are pretty confident on the extra amenity packs - TBH I have never and would never ask for 2 amenity kits - I always ask to take female instead of male but asking for 2 a bit over the top IMHO of course - and plenty times response has been 'Sorry all out of female'. I am not backward in asking for 2 Teddies though but bit of a price / value diff there..

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Well, not exactly just the Ferragamos. You have to consider the Dom, the Krug, the JW Blue, the iced Milo, the BTC Lobster, The Private Room and the pyjamas too. I've got to go home to SIN for Chinese New Year next year and I thought of going on an amenity kit run to burn down all my points. Taking it as a graduation trip.

This year for Chinese New Year I did burn 70k Delta miles to fly PVG-AMS-AUH just for the Delft houses that they give out in business class :) So that I could connect on to an EY flight in F for 40k AA miles to 1) get a haircut at the EY lounge in AUH, 2) get home to SIN, have a 9h layover to get dirty clothes out into the laundry, 3) connect on to NRT to meet a friend in Shibuya for dinner before flying HND-CGK-SIN the next day to be officially home for Chinese New Year :)

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I've always gotten a second one in F :D Maybe it's my boyish looking face asking one of the older lady FAs sheepishly "could I have a ladies' kit? For my girlfriend (though unfortunately I have none at the moment)" Whether it be the SK-II branded ones on QF SYD-DXB, Rimowa/L'Occitane on TG SYD-BKK/BKK-HND/BKK-KIX, Sougha/Le Labo on EY AUH-SIN/AUH-DUS or Aesop on CX LAX-HKG. Have also managed to bash out a spare set of small-sized PJs for said "girlfriend" on TG/EY/CX. They make great presents and great stories for friends - I don't hoard any of them but give them out to good friends.

Am also trying to fit my way through to CAN or BKK to get the QR A380 and their Armani kits BKK-DOH or CAN-DOH.

Plus, have friends in Shanghai (and also to check out the Fairmont Peace Hotel), Tokyo (Conrad Tokyo), Bangkok (Conrad Bangkok, which I've been to before) and Taipei (Grand Hyatt Taipei, which I've been to before), so still trying to squeeze in everything.

All on 82k UA, 75k SQ and 127k AA miles. Decisions, decisions.

Re: SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Back then when UA charged 60k miles for SYD-NRT in F but 40k for SYD-NRT-GUM in F, I landed in GUM at 2am and got the heck of there at 7.30am to hit up SIN for my "stopover" ;) Standing in an hour-long immigration line at 2am to get into GUM wasn't fun though. Cleared immigration and re-checked in at 3.30am. Good thing, cos the UA lounge only opened then. Was just happy to pop in, find a quiet spot, pull my beanie over my head and get a few hours of shuteye. Unfortunately nowadays it's 60k either to NRT or to GUM :(
Well, now I can see the method in your madness!
