Somehow I broke a personal rule and got caught up with the spirit of QF´s new online campaign.

Clicking on too many things on my QF homepage and next thing I am in some sort of competition/lottery to get my name writen on the side of a QF plane!!! I would love that.

I initially declined the second part of the ¨get involved¨ campaign, which was to submit a photo of myself that they might use in adds, etc. I am not pretty enough for that.

But then I got to thinking, that there is some poor sod in an office somewhere in Australia having to go through thousands of photos of smiling customers. Must be dreadful. So I figured I could brighten his/her day with a photo of a traveller different from the usual. It was of my Beanie Kid (parents might know what these are) that my daughters make me travel around the world with. He is a cute little bear which some of the QF flight crew (flights to SCL/EZE/LAX) might remember. Sits with me drinking bourbon in J.

Anyway, my photo got rejected as it ¨did not pass moderation¨. So my Beanie Kid travel bear will not be a star. Hope I made someone in QF smile though.

As for the campaign, I think I like it. The thought of having my name on a plane really does it for me. Not sure why, but it does.

Will always love Qantas.

"This photograph is 32% alcohol by area, and contains the equivalent of 7.5 standard drinks..."

Now if you'd used a low alcohol photo, it would have been fine.

But the bottle is empty!! Surely that should go underneath the alcohol radars. It is a stuffed child´s bear for Christ´s sake! :)

My bear, CIT (Choc Ice Tea), in a sober moment enjoying New Zealand.

Edit: making snow angels!

nlagalle, the bears in the Beanie Kid line each have their ¨correct¨name on their tag. So this is Choc Ice Tea, the rapper bear. One of my daughters made him a minature eye mask, a la business kit, to make his travel easier. This bear has flown over 400,000 km in the last year. A fair bit on QF, the majority on OW, but still not good enough for the QF promo. (but I respect the problem that a JD bottle causes)

There is more than just the alcohol which would have gotten it rejected:

Thank you for helping us share the Spirit of Australians!

Australians are a diverse lot, and we want you to be able to express yourself the way you want to - after all, this campaign is all about you! But remember, your content may be seen by lots of other people. That's why we've developed some content guidelines to help keep the campaign fun for everyone.

Photos that have anyone else in them - We're asking you to upload a photo of yourself, since you're at the heart of everything that we do. However, we understand you might want to upload a photo that shows you with your nearest and dearest. In that case, we ask that you limit the photo to including you and just one other person, and that you make sure you get their OK (and, if they're under 18, their parent or guardian's permission) to submit the photo to be used in Qantas advertising.

Keep it clean and respectful - Please consider the diverse backgrounds of all Australians, such as age, ethnicity, religion, and lifestyle. We know you're a sensible bunch and don't need to be told this, but here are some basic guidelines nonetheless:

Nothing offensive, socially irresponsible or illegal - don't submit anything which shows, depicts or refers to anything which could be offensive, such as provocative clothing or sexual acts, violent behavior or weapons. You should also avoid images showing alcohol consumption or illicit drug use.
Be respectful and don't discriminate - don't include anything defamatory or libelous, or which unlawfully discriminates against anyone for any reason, such as age, gender, race, sexual orientation, religion or anything else.
Dress to impress - make sure you and anyone else in your photo are dressed appropriately. This doesn't mean wearing your Sunday best, but rather being sensible about the clothing (and how much of it!) you're wearing in the photo you submit.
Include just you, not a message - don't include personal contact details (like phone numbers or email addresses), sales messages, or political statements, messages or symbols (such as flags).
Keep it real - please only upload a photo of you, and use your real name. We can't accept any joke or fake names or cartoon images. We also can't accept an image where it appears the account does not genuinely belong to that person, so don't imitate anyone or upload a photo of your favourite celebrity, actor, musician or sport person.
Speaking the same language - if your content contains a language other than English, we may contact you and ask you to supply a translation. Of course, the original text and the translation need to follow our guidelines.
Make sure all the content is yours - please make sure that what you upload doesn't infringe anyone else's rights, such as copyright, company logos or registered trademarks.

Annoying, but that is their rules, and their choice.

BTW - I reviewed the gallery shown to me on my mobile, and there is at least one pic that has someone with a wine glass. Also, 3 or 4 "high viz" photos are shown. And the tacky lady with the "bikini shirt" really should be removed...

Noticed one AFF'er (or at least I think it's them!).

There is a BAEC member over on FT that would probably like to talk to you about IP rights to use bears on flyer forums ;)

Actually Marketing is the problem but don't tell them that because they think they are making a positive contribution....

I agree. But I was referring to the advertising for JD in the picture in this case.

Looks like the campaign is generating a much bigger than QF has planned for.

With 20,000 people expressed interest to have their names on an aircraft, it looks like QF may need more than 1 A380 to accommodate everyone.
