I still cannot comprehend how it costs double to travel from Australia to Europe as opposed to travelling from Europe to Australia. I think someone mentioned recently that it was competition from UK/Europe but the way I see it the aircraft that comes to Australia has to go back again.

It is sad we live in a country where it is cheaper to purchase an airfare from Australia-SE Asia and a separate airfare from SE Asia-Europe and it is cheaper than the through airfare Australia-Europe utilising exactly the same flights and services....

From Australia to Europe is up hill, so uses more fuel

May QF are anticipating an adjustment in the £:$ exchange rates ...

Supply and Demand, more people wanting to come from Europe so the airlines can afford the lower fares and still make a profit.

Probably the other way around. They can fill most of the J seats from OZ to LHR without needing to resort to discounting. To get people moved in the reverse direction, lower prices are required.

I would think that nobody in the UK could afford full fare these days

I might be missing something here...but most people get return rather than one way tickets....so I cannot see how there can be empty seats in one direction that "need filling"......apart from special events.

I think it is more likely that QF has quitea few regular Auastrlian basedBusiness Travellers that they believe will stump up the cash regadless (so why discount?) vsa lot of discreationarly UK travellers that can be swayed if the price is right.

Huh? Just a guess but I would say there are more Australians travelling in/out of the country on a regular basis than tourists coming into Australia.

I think supply and demand is a poor excuse to use. Why am I paying double for the same seat if I am travelling in business class on QF2 LHR-SYD on a ticket purchased in Australia than the person sitting next to me business class on a ticket purchased in the UK?

Can't wait for the day where the price of one-way international airfares is down to realistic levels....

From Australia that will be a cold day in hell, until a vaible LCC steps into a route (as shown on the TP route).

I rmeember when the Aussie peso was around the 1.30 SGD and you could get QF flights Sin-SYD return for a lower SGD price than the same trip SYD_SIN return.

I do think most flag carriers are more expensive in their home countries than abroad.

A380 First Suite LHR SIN SYD return A$6.565!!!!!!

G`Day,

Are we being taken for a ride ?? Just got a e-mail from a friend in Germany with the following advert (in German) that was sent to him via a travel agent that specializes in First and Business class tickets, there seems to be a big difference in pricing at the moment if you are flying UK to AUS rather than the other way round. LHR SIN SYD return in the A380 First Suites for €3.399 approx A$6.565!!!! Singapore return (LHR) for 2.699 approx A$5.200 .

Tickets must be issued by 25 March (I know it’s a little bit late now but its interesting information) for outward travel before 31 August, ticket valid for 1 year.

Amazing prices I think you will agree. The question is why the big difference if you fly AUS to Europe????

Qantas - First Class Suiten im Airbus 380 ab EUR 2.699,-

Qantas - First Class nach Bangkok € 2.699,-

Unfortunatly in German but I´m sure members will get the meaning of it.

Kind regards, Traveller F

Re: A380 First Suite LHR SIN SYD return A$6.565!!!!!!

Indeed. There is a sale on ex-UK and 1st class return fares on QF are GBP3000 with business at GBP2000. The fare has some major drawbacks in that no changes or refunds are permitted. Use it or lose it

Fares to Australia from Europe are often cheaper than the other way
