Best way to look at it is that its 50k for a night at an intercontinental

Thanks for the heads up OP :)

I rarely stay at IHG properties however did crunch some numbers for a stay in San Francisco next month. US$690 (120K) plus $210 (using 40K + $70 per night) = US$900/3 nights at the IC SF which is much cheaper than the $1200USD/3night if paying outright cash. That said I need two double beds and award tickets appear to not guarantee bed type / assigned on check-in so I will keep my existing booking around the corner at Park Central.

I purchased points two days ago (and got the receipt emailed instantly), but the points still haven't hit my account. Has anyone else been in this situation?

EDIT: They hit my account ten minutes after typing this.

I got in on this, and my 60,000 bonus points ( along with the 60k purchased ) credited to my account in less than FIVE MINUTES !!!

I am still pondering if I should get on board with this sale. US$6.75 per 1000 points is only slightly better than the US$7.00 at which you can generate them normally. I have a quite a few trips coming up over the next 8 months (domestic & intl) and checked rates for all hotels I still need, and only a handful are better value with points, and if so then only marginally.

However, always good to have them up your sleeve for last minute trips, special events with high rates etc. Decisions, decisions...

Do bought IHG points count for requalifiicaton eg Platinum status or even the "new membership level above Platinum...(to be called ?Black)?

120K IHG pts for USD690 is better value than the standard 10K IHG pts for USD70 by cancelling cash and points stays :)

They used to, but I looked up the T&Cs and they do not anymore.

Just realised I made an error calculating the cost, it's only USD 5.75 per 1k, so that actually is good value then.

Until 30th June. Looks like you can buy up to 120K for USD690. Might make sense for some

I take it the amount of bonus points is dependant on your membership. As a brand new member of IHG with absolutely no activity on account yet I was only offered 50% bonus points.
So it offered me 7000 + Bonus 3500 for $94 USD. So the points and stay option much better value when I finally accrue points!

I think there were two offers. The second one offered a variable bonus.

As jsoprano states they don't count.

The new level is called Spire and it ain't what we were hoping for.

Not a bad idea to pick up the minimum required to get the 100% bonus (26 K + 26 K) and park towards 10 nights on PointBreaks if they include any Oceania properties
