Krisflyer miles expired

Hi Everyone, I haven't touched my points for a year. I did book flights last month but had to cancel due to borders shut down. Ive lost a couple of hundred points due to expiry. I'm dying inside. Is there a way to get it back?? I did question them this end of last yr and they said i dont need to worry due to covid 19 travel ban. I'm ready to book now but i don't have enough points :( I've tried to call them a few times ( ok 10 times) and never could get thru to them all week. I would appreciate any help. Thank you
 
I'm a bit confused by this post because KrisFlyer is extending all expiring miles until the end of this year.

You shouldn't have lost any KrisFlyer miles.

No need to delete. Probably useful for future reference, and rightfully you had the points reinstated.

The mechanics of the way SQ mileage extensions work (miles get extended only when due to expire), means those that are redeposited (after cancelling an award) after they were due to expire will still automatically expire (there’s no sweep to pick them up), thus manual intervention in the form of an appeal to reinstate is required.
 
Don’t delete and don’t worry about it, SQ customer ‘service/experience’ is at an all time low right now, so your experience is sadly not surprising at all.

Given the amount of admin overhead and complexity introduced by point-based expiry dates, I wonder why they persist. Switching to account-based seems to me like it would be a minor change, be received well by customers and would save real money in the form of none of these manual adjustments.
 
This is a known issue with many people being affected. The miles shouldn’t have been expired. My experience was that it took multiple phone calls with several hours wasted before they eventually reinstated my miles. I see the OP mentioned “a couple of hundred points” being lost. I wouldn’t have bothered for this small amount, did you mean a couple of hundred thousand?
 
I lost a few hundred that expired when they shouldn’t have. To be honest I couldn’t be bothered contacting them given how bad the service has been of late. But clearly there is some issue where the extension isn’t being automatically applied.

I booked these last year as I had points that were expiring in March. If I have to cancel those trips due to COVID, will I get all the points back, as they would not have expired if I had not used them? It seems only fair, but I've learned not to assume anything where points are concerned.

Yes you will, but the process will not be automatic.

You will have to appeal that the miles be reinstated, by either calling, emailing or submitting a form online requesting that the expiration of the miles be reversed, as they would have been extended to September anyway. (and In September they will be extended again to March 2023).

I would go with the email or form first, and if you don't hear back within 2-3 weeks, then call.

I used the online form on Dec 23, followed up online Jan 17, contacted SIA Twitter Jan 24, all the while being advised “things are taking time we will get to you”. Called on 9 Feb, only waited 5 minutes or so and points back by the next day. SIA process is broken, the only way of getting a response is a call, just try and do it at a time of day when few others are doing so.

Had to book my Krisflyer rewards last Sep '21 for travel in Sep '22 as my points were expiring in April '22 and didn't want to wait till the last minute and I had a few hundred thousand to lose. This was before SIA extended all points due to expire from April '22 onwards. I'm still apprehensive to travel this year but was not sure if I can re-book my flights to 2023.

After a few long calls to the call centre, they confirmed that I can re-book my flights to 2023 as long as it is done before my first initial travel date (which is Sep '22). This is a relief to me.

But after reading the above comments, the other option is to cancel my original booking as I will not be restricted to booking future flights before Sep '22 (as per above). I have a few questions if I may :
1. Should I cancel my booking before my miles expire on end April or should I do it after April 30 when my miles have really expired ?
2. How long do they take to reinstate the expired miles ?
3. Is there a fee for requesting expired miles to be re-instated ?

Maybe you can appeal as others have posted? I wish you luck. Kind of penalises you for using the points. If you had left them and not made an award booking they would’ve been automatically extended by another 6 months. Unf as you know, service at SQ isn’t great right now. You may have to wait on hold for a whilst if you do call and want a credible answer to your questions :(

This sounds like an awful situation, surely it's never a smart move to be so harsh to loyal customers?
 
Geez, that sounds problematic to say the least. I was just thinking of booking some flights .
And the issue is compounded greatly by the fact that Singapore Airlines are extremely hard to contact now; they often don't honour their 'call backs' or reply to emails.

If we were dealing with the Singapore Airlines customer service team from 2 years ago it would be much easier to get some definitive answers which would make things a lot less stressful. (First world problems, I know, but the uncertainty is a PITA).
 
There’s also likely a fee payable to extend validity for 6 months… $16 per 1200 miles. See link to service fees below:-


This only would apply to miles expiring after Dec 2022. For those expiring in 2022, it should be free as SQ are progressively extending all expiring miles by 6 months - each month before the end of the month they are due to expire (example, miles expiring May will in late May be extended to expire in November. Then in November, those expiring in November ... including those that were extended from May ... will be extended to expire in May 2023).
