Article: Rex Filling Business Class with Free Upgrades

Knowing this now I wouldn't pay for business class on Rex, they are only shooting themselves in the foot in my view.
I would be furious if I paid the full fare and all those around me got a seat for economy class pricing.
Yes, of course, it's not guaranteed if you didn't buy it, but on principle alone, I'll steer clear of bus class on Rex as this devalues these seats.

Yup, if you are smart, you are in business. They have been told never leave a business seat empty. Reward their customers. From ADL their prices are half the others. They are a very staff and customer focused business model. Perhaps why Joyce mentioned them as domestic competition in his recent grilling on 4 Corners.

Any recent bidding experiences? Is there a mega thread to track bids and success rates?

(my current $25 for OOL-SYD is not the highest bid at the moment) :)

The next question would be, knowing this, how many additional Y seats do they sell that would otherwise have gone to other carriers?

That was in reference to them giving away J to Y passengers, they are no longer doing this AFAIK, so it's irrelevant now.

They are allowing people to bid instead, as many airlines do to fill seats.

Do upgrade bids work if you do online check in before they clear? Or is better to skip online check in and go to the airport?

I did olci at T-48. bid process ran separately.

Oh well, I bid $5 over the minimum and was successful - $55
Total per pax $185 one way Melbourne Adelaide.
Check-in was a breeze with helpful staff.
Computer automatically seated us 1F 2A but a quick chat with the gate staff got us moved to 1D 1F. The other pax was a bid upgrade so they weren't in a position to complain and seem to be a couple as well.

We decided to forego the Rex lounge in favour of breakfast at Quikshots, using priority pass from Citi Prestige. This seems to be a new addition to PP.
Proper barista coffee and a croissant.
They do drinks as well.

I have to say. T4 is much improved since the early days.

The staff were very professional, attentive and addressed us by name at all times. CSM, "Con" definitely doesn't give the impression of being a transfer from Rex regional....
Lunch was a tasty pie or a salad.
The pastry was disappointingly soft and moist as though it had been steamed or microwaved. I wonder if you can retrofit an air fryer to 737-800???.
Coconut cake and a hand made chocolate.

All up, I'd say Rex is equal to Qantas and Virgin domestic J

To be honest that food looks better than QF and VA. Although I can’t stand the waste with all that cardboard and plastic.

A pie looks better than VA or QF in J, are you sure? ;)
I find both QF and VA far more impressive than this.
Those glasses (plastic cups) look very budget also.
But then again, for the ultra low budget price you can get Rex J for this is excellent, considering :)

Well I did say food not tableware 😜

To be honest, the tomatoes and greens look so appealing compared to QF’s usual rice and slop bowl.

The salad looked much sexier but Mrs D had ruined the picture before I could get my phone out!!
I've had a pie on both the other airlines!
😀😀
None of them are Qatar or SQ but the whole experience was good value even at revenue rates. IMHO
