While most of us will be familiar with QFF being punitive when it comes to flying on QR, and vindictive when it comes to flying on MH, there is an oddity about earning on WestJet that I suspect is due to QFF being lazy, rather than something deliberate.
Most things about the WestJet QFF Earn Categories Table make sense - the cheapest Basic fares aren't on there, with most other Economy fares spread through the Economy categories, and the correct fare classes for Premium listed as Premium Economy.
However, it all becomes strangely undone when it comes to Business. WestJet launched Business Class on its then-new 787s back in 2019. Despite being in the air for three years now, the QFF table does not list any WestJet fare classes under "Business". Further, the QFF table doesn't list the WestJet Business fare classes (J, C, D) anywhere. Therefore, if you buy a WestJet Business fare you will earn 0 QFF points, but if you buy a WestJet Premium or Economy (minus Basic) fare you will earn points.
To me, this is a bizarre oversight whereby the highest fares earn nothing, but some of the cheapest do - are there any other examples of this in the QFF program?
FWIW, I emailed QFF and, after some back and forth, was provided with the following response:
This is a shame because WestJet has a fantastic Business Class, which is easily the best TATL product to Canada (also one of the best in the overall North American market), and the airline has few rewards partners (QFF is just one of four).

In regards to you query, we confirmed that based on the Qantas earning table the WestJet Business Class and First Class do not earn Qantas Points. We will take your feedback and concern on board.
