I think you can buy duty free alcohol in Sydney as long as it’s in a sealed bag. Security will check the back is unopened. I did this on a SQ flight recently and all was ok.

We are flying that route QF1in December.... At Singapore during transit we would like to use the lounge access, the 90min layover seems very quick, is the lounge in the same terminal you land and is it easily accessed.

When I did QF1 last August, there was no time for lounge access as we were late departing SYD (someone checked-in and checked a bag then failed to board, so it had to be offloaded), which meant the turn around time in SIN was less than 25 minutes, by the time we disembarked (and I was in J and one of the first off), they were already directing people to start clearing the gate security. Only had time to go to the public toilet and wash my face - so much for a shower and a laksa - before joining the security queue (there was no priority for status or J or F).

Do know where to go but do not be surprised if there isnt time to do so if there are delays out of SYD.

Last time I went through Dubai there was no time for lounge as we were delayed also.... I hope we get to use the lounge.....Is it an easy walk to the lounge or does it take ages to get there?...I will be wanting a shower and a laksa too!!!

The last couple times I've been through, QF1/2 has been at D gates. It takes about 10 mins one way to the lounge and back. Just follow first signs to the airline lounges but when you get to the central area, keep your eyes peeled for the QF lounge signs and be particular about the colouring of the logo so you'll find your way to the right one (see the map above).

BTW, anyone know why the logos are coloured this way? QF's WP background is black but they are using the colour standard here in a contrary way, for the 'non-WP/P1' lounge. Wouldn't it be more logical to have the F lounge on black and J lounge on gold (or even just the QF red)? Or use the OW colours (green / blue).

Technically, one of the two security queues may be signposted as priority but in practice it's free for all. The priority kicks in only in the gate lounge where the front (by entry to the airbridge) is for premium and status pax and the rear part for the rest.

It is the same terminal, but the J lounge is a long walk from the gate. The First lounge is half the distance. Last August, all we were able to do in the J lounge was use the bathroom and grab a quick soft drink/water.
And forget about any sort of priority in security. Sure, there are top deck and lower deck queues but you all funnel into the one door.

But you still have the same time constraint. Given you need to be back in the security queue at the latest 30-40 mins before the departure, you'll leave the lounge, at the minus 45-50 minute mark. If it's a 90-minute stop, this gives you 20-40 mins in the lounge, depending on how well everything goes. To me, it mean perhaps just a cup of fruit & salad and a bathroom stop. That's it.

Yep at one point Qantas seemed to exclusively get those C-pier gates with combined security, but it seems to be more random recently.

If you’re flying in Business or First Class, you can also visit the Qatar Airways Premium Lounge in Singapore

I visited the Qatar Airways Premium Lounge last year. The food (choice of à la carte and buffet), service (proactive and discreet) and ambience (some private booths available, and overall very quiet - helped by the fact there were very few people in the lounge at the time) were all excellent.

I had intended to visit the Qantas First Lounge as well to compare the two, but ran out of time due to a delayed flight into Singapore. Also, I was enjoying my time in the Qatar lounge so wasn't inclined to rush over and squeeze in a Qantas visit.

This is why I prefer to fly QF81 (Sydney to Singapore) then QF1 (Singapore to Heathrow) if given a choice. Much more time to unwind, shower, eat and stretch, even if there is a delay into Singpore. Personally I don't mind the extra hours it adds to journey; you still get into London at the same time as taking QF1 all the way.
