Rex has introduced a new upgrade bid system. Passengers can bid for spare Business Class seats up to 7 days prior to departure.

As a launch promotion, the minimum bid amount will apparently be just $10.

Certainly makes better financial sense for Rex than just giving away spare J seats for free!

No more free upgrades...
Free upgrades were a good thing with Rex. I only had them twice, but both times it was nice to fly in the front ... With this bid thingy I don't think ZL will do op-ups anymore (unless Y is overbooked)

I don't care about all the other BS that comes with business class etc. Having long legs all I want is a seat that does not cause further injury to my knees nor is painful to travel in like most economy seats are these days. It is not fun having to pay extra for seats just because you happen to have been born tall or with long legs ..

I would be willing to bid $50 for an east coast trunk route… SYD-MEL or BNE for example.

That’s $35 over the rextra legroom fee, or a ~50% increase over the lead-in fares for those routes ($89).

Slight profit to ZL over giving away the seats for free.

Trying it now. Any other data points?
