We have flown SccootPlus, it was called ScootBiz, on our first trip, several times. For us it is a very useful way to get to Singapore and pick up J flights much, much cheaper than out of Perth. As long as you just treat it as a way to avoid paying the Australia tax and accept that all you will get is a biggish seat and a basic meal you will be fine.
The advantages I have seen are -:
- near enough a Premium Economy seat and legroom. For us this makes the flight much more comfortable than a Y seat on 'full service' airlines. And for about the same price as that Y seat.
- the 15 kg Cabin Baggage and 30 kg checked baggage allowance is more than we have ever needed.
- Priority boarding is fiercely enforced. Any trespassers are quickly sent off to the normal queue.
- Relationship with SQ. On one trip their B787's had been grounded with the well known Rolls Royce engine problems. We were transferred to an old SQ B777 fitted with the Regional J seats. The IFE was available and we got full Y meals plus all the Tea, Coffee and non-alcoholic drinks we wanted.
- The cabin crew have been fine. Not that they have a lot of service runs to do or items to handout but they have all been pleasant.
Disadvantages -:
Food is at just about a $5 hawker level. But as it is only a 5 hour flight Per -Sin this has not been a concern.
No IFE - as Matt said the 30MB allowance is laughable. On our first trip they had free streaming of some movies and TV shows but in line with
their ethos to offer nothing for free this has long been canned. I just load up my tablet or PC and watch them. There is a free power outlet for the ScootPlus seats. In Y you have to pay for power.
You only get a couple of small plastic cups of water apart from the can of drink with the meal. Theoretically you are not supposed to bring 'outside' drinks or food on board. On one flight the cabin crew bought around more water.
Scoot also fly their a320 to Perth and if you are half-witted like my son you can accidentally book yourself in Y on one of those flights. He tells me that even in Y there was a world of difference between the Scoot B787 and the A320..
A photo of the meal I got in 2019 is below. For comparison below that is a 2018 meal. You can see that cost cutting to save even a few cents is still king.
