Tried them for the first time last yr : Aust to LHR in F and, nah.. for the money and discretionary choice we will stay with SQ. Perhaps its the mixed crew - never got a sense of a single identity and while that shower is about the very best onboard experience on any airline, and leaving Aust late eve the long overnight is an ideal way to smooth out the jet lag and stay topped up on sleep, we just didnt think all that much of F cabin (seats roughly same area as the best J). Food was fine, but several French bordeaux over sevrl flts tasted rather long in the tooth (CSM acknowledged maybe had some rather old stock) so..

@Mattg Great review - I am a practical dude and an economy day time flight from SIN would be fine. But what are points for if you can't use 'em for an experience.

I had noticed the disparity in the +++ ex SIN (note this disparity extends for an ex SIN for a return ;))

Nice review! Thanks Matt. I had no idea the carrier charges out of SIN hadn’t been enhanced!

About 10 years ago I flew MEL-SIN in F. It was my first proper first class flight on any airline. Despite being the only passenger in F, service was clumsy and a bit indifferent. E.g. FA 1 took my drink order then FA 2 came and asked we what I wanted to drink while #1 was making my G&T. This sort of thing happened a couple of times during the flight. I’m glad you had a great crew! I’m yet to meet a truly stellar crew on EK, but fingers crossed for an upcoming flight on the new 777 later this year.

I might be a statistical outlier but I prefer F on the 777 to the A380. Seem more open and "airy" and, with less pax, a little more personal. The A380 shower is not a deal breaker given you can have one in the lounge and the on-board bar is one of those "box ticked" features. That said, F on either aircraft is still a great experience. Hoping to try the "game changer" suite later this year.

Several of us have said we prefer the 777 over the 380. Swings and roundabouts, and each to their own! I've got a few flights on both coming up - will see if my views change.

SIN-MEL(-SIN)👍

MEL-SIN(-MEL) 👎
I don’t know whether it’s just superstition or not but don’t like that this being highlighted, in case there’s some sort of error that can and will be fixed, as this applies to all classes of travel. Even if in economy, or perhaps especially in economy the day flight down to MEL on EK coughs all over QF 36 or QF 38 (and especially JQ8) the other QFF redemption options even with 3-4-3 on the 777.

The comment about ice and lemon in sparkling water made me laugh. I’ve just done several QF int sectors in both F and J and every time I ordered sparkling water they asked if I wanted ice and lemon, I said no and then the drink would arrive with ice and lemon 🍋😂
