That’s a really helpful article. I’ve also found that Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has some fantastic short-haul sweet spots. In fact it’s possible to nab a short-haul flight on one of their European partner airlines such as Air France/KLM for as little as 4000 points. The downside is that Virgin Atlantic doesn’t have quite as many European partner airlines as United does.

Great article, thanks for sharing!

Another way I've found useful to earn United Mileage Plus miles in Australia is by booking holiday accommodation. I've found that often you can get a holiday home cheaper on Stayz than you can on Airbnb. Instead of booking on Stayz, I book on Stayz' US-based sister website VRBO. If you book via the United Portal, you can earn 3 miles per $1 USD spent, and it works on bookings in Australia booked in AUD.

I found a good deal on an Azul flight MAO-PVH-CGB-AFL to get to an obscure airport (Alta Floresta) which is a bird watching hotspot. 13k for the 3 segments.

I just had a look and one key cash seems to be the loyalty points program for Vrbo. Do you get the United miles on top of the one key cash component.

I also have hotels.com account. I presume I keep all my stamps based in Australia if I convert over to Vrbo as well.
