VA has launched a new status match offer today for Gold or higher members with "any other Australian frequent flyer program" - in other words, Qantas.

It's apparently to celebrate the launch of its new partnership with Luxury Escapes.

You'll get 3 months of Discover Gold and can get a further 12 months of Velocity Gold status by flying at least one eligible VA sector and earning 80 status credits within the trial period.

To apply, you need to send an email including your name, Velocity number and a photo of your QFF membership card by 15 September 2023 to [email protected].

This offer is not available to anyone who has held any form of Velocity status since April 2020, which may render quite a few people here ineligible.

Details and full instructions here:

My QF Gold was going to lapse, then the recent 'gift' came into affect that will result in me requalifiying.

I applied yesterday, I'll be interested to see how long it takes since I would probably earn gold organically otherwise.

Two days after applying i got this email:

Thank you for providing your Australian based Frequent Flyer card.

We are pleased to let you know that as of today, your membership with Velocity is now on Discover Gold status. Your new qualification period starts from 24th August 2023 to 23rd November 2023.

We’ll assess your eligibility at the end of your 3 month Discover Gold trial, and if you earn 80 Status Credits and fly at least one Eligible Sector during this time, you will receive 12 months of full Gold status.

You can access your Velocity Card via the Velocity App or by downloading your digital card via the My Profile tab when you log in to your My Velocity account.

If there’s anything else we can do for you, please visit www.velocityfrequentflyer.com or call the Membership Contact Centre on the number below. Welcome to Gold!

What about using this three month gold status for lounge access on economy class bookings for flights on Singapore Airlines?
Something tells me ‘the computer says no’.

This should work fine. Your VA Gold status will be printed on your SQ boarding pass and you can use that to enter the lounge (if an SQ lounge is available).

Thanks for your reply. I’m already booked, using my KrisFlyer number. I was thinking that if I had a physical VA gold card, I could get lounge access without trying to change where I credit the points.

Applied for this one, will see if this is a good round about way to get IHG Gold Status, which tbh does not mean much (you only feel the benefits at Diamond with the breakfast), but its something I guess.

Now to figure out the 80 status credits to extend this by 12 months...

Could bag up to 30 SC via Flybuys, leaving 50SC + 1 flight requirement.

If I'm understanding the system correctly, could potentially bag more if you have family pooling + another FB account?

I'm hoping the family pooling will work, it should count towards the 80 SC requirement? Does anyone know for sure?

Finally got processed less than 24 hours before a flight, hope that counts towards the eligible sector and SC requirements

so I've just taken the plunge into the Virgin side of life....
booked a cheapo flight to Launy so I may as well endeavour to grab breakfast in the somewhat newish Adelaide Virgin lounge

so a really old card dating back to 2008 I suspect was dragged out of storage

I expect I have no idea of passwords, and what nots especially the email address, home address, phone number attached to the account was likely a former work one - presumably, they can work it out at their end? or do they archive inactive accounts>? I'm thinking it might cause a few hassles DUSTY but perhaps not insurmountable

any thoughts?

Use the digital card in the App.
