We recently travelled on Turkish to Vienna via Jakarta & and three day stopover in Istanbul. We were on a new 787 and thought it tremendous value for money. Unreservedly reccommend.

I can see myself booking this before too long. Bit disappointing about the pricing though - it’s not probably comparing apps with apples but the basic AY QR fair is about 6K odd, from memory.

We travelled in J from Singapore to Madrid return with transits at Istanbul. Flight was good, food was excellent with plenty of flavour. The new Istanbul airport is vast and a stopover is probably the best way to go and Istanbul is a beautiful city.

Unless you really want to walk in personally, it doesn't really matter where a good TA is located. I'm in Tas and my TA is in Melbourne (and does AY and LH 'RTWs') - if you are interested, PM me.

Yes, it's the same as the Finnair fare in that you can travel in either direction as you wish. So, you don't technically have to fly around the world - although you can.

The "final destination" would be wherever you want to end up in Europe, the Middle East or Africa. And an open-jaw is allowed. So, your "destination" could for example be London, Paris, Helsinki, Dubai or anywhere else in the aforementioned regions that TK flies. You could also fly (for example) into London and out of Madrid.

You could, but there are surcharges involved for adding on extra flights within Asia. You may find it cheaper to fly in/out of Tokyo in Japan.

I’ve had a go with TK’s site and can’t make anything work with stop-overs: straight one way or simple return is okay.

As it says in the article, the more complex itineraries are only available to book through travel agents.

…which for clarity, would then appear to be any itinerary that seeks to make use of the stop overs. They are the fare element that allows these to be most useful or even considered RTW.

I got quoted a true RTW biz class airfare for Jan departure flying SQ at $10,700 with stops in London, Frankfurt, NYC, Tokyo, Singapore and then back to Aust. So maybe this is pretty much equivalent to the $6k back and forth to Europe which is not really RTW.

If you come across a better deal then please let us all know as I am open as to where to go, but would like to stop in Europe, USA, and Asia.

Not quite sure what you mean here. The TK, AY and LH fares can be either 'there and back' or 'RTW'.

I had my TA book a simple AY RTW for this Christmas period with stops in Asia, Europe (open jaw) and US (open jaw) and from poor memory, it was about $9K for business, mix of AY, AA and QF.

Just in case someone is interested, using the same TA recommended by RooFlyer (thank you!) we have finalised a J itin using TK fares: SYD-CGK (with QF) // CGK-IST-OTP (with TK) // OTP-IST (with TK) // IST-YYZ (with TK) // YYZ (YVR) SYD (with AC). The cost pp is around $9K plus $500 for booking done by TA. We are happy with this as we could not have done the booking ourselves! The reason why the fare pp was around $900 higher than the headlined fare in Mattg's article was because there are 2 TK daily flights from CGK to IST - one day and one night. The day one is cheaper, we wanted the more expensive night one.

Since we have not done a RTW before, but booked all our trips point to point, either paid cash or ff points, there have been a number of itin changes to fit in the rules. If we understand the RTW rules then it would have been easier to plan the itin. We gave the TA our QFF numbers for QF flight and SQ KrisFlyer numbers for TK and AC flights. Oveall the TA has done a good job (as I am a control freak!). She asked us about our seat preference and selected them for us - I have checked and they are all OK. Most flight J configs are 1 x 2 x 1, except TK flight IST-YYZ is a B777 so 2 x 3 x 2 reclined seats not flat.

Before the TA emailed us the final itin, I saw the flights she booked came through awardwallet so I knew before receving her email the refs and selected seats. I went into QF, AC and TK websites to view them

This trip is in August for hubby's birthday and we want to visit Costa Rica. We do a stopover in Toronto and take AC flights YYZ-SJO-YYZ. We booked these ourselves. The flights are 5+ hours, and the planes are the narrow body A220, so the Y config is 2 x 3 so should be more comfortable (we hope) than B737 with 3 x 3.

RooFlyer has given us useful tips about the massive IST airport - which we have not been. The TA said we would be getting the 2 nights in a 5* hotel from TK, based on our itin.
