Hi all

I am currently considering blowing a $1000 voucher I have for QF travel on a business trip to MEL. I can't use it for personal travel (originally it was going to be used for mrssimongr to fly to NZ but then I had surgery...) and it needs to be used up.

I owe my boss $300 for some personal flights on an upcoming biz trip so I have said I will pay for my trip down to MEL to offset that (actual current flight cost is $450ish).

So here I am with $1000 to spend to get to MEL and back. Options would be to book a fully flex flight and get an extra 20 SCs and that would burn around $900. Other option is buy a J seat and earn another 40SCs on top of that - the kicker is that the cost of the J seat is $557 each way meaning I am actually out of pocket $114...

Any thoughts? I don't need the 60 SCs for requal as I will hit WP comfortably but will be very far off WP PG so it wont make that much difference (although I say that I might be closer than I think...)

So how does $114 sound for 40 or 60 SCs?

So much depends upon circumstances. I'd take it because I will be near the 2400 for PG this year...and it would also take me to LTG that little bit sooner.

If it is a case of losing the $1000 you may as well get the 60 status credits for $114.

I will certainly use the voucher - I can buy a whY seat for $900 - its whether I should fork out personal cash for the SCs...

By itself in consideration, $114 for 60 SCs is excellent value.

Since the trip will need to be made anyway, but you don't really need the SCs, I guess it comes more down to whether you want to / are comfortable to spend the $114. Mind you, return flights to MEL don't come that cheap, period.

I'd look at it more as $114 for the extra service/space you will get in J.

Go for Gold Simon!

Yeah - I think I might - I often try to upgrade using points so this actually saves me points ;)

I have only had one J breakfast flight that I recall... Any champers with brekkie :p

OZ Sparkling is DEFO available on request.

Let the CSM know you want one and they should put it in the chiller for you. Otherwise it can be a bit warm.

I usually let them know when I board.

I’m just a little confused here, so you’re using a $1000 voucher for a trip, but for an extra $114 you can get an extra 60SC on top of whatever you’d get for the $1000? Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, and as you’re not necessarily in need of the SC’s, I’d just focus on the extra comfort afforded by the $114.

It is a possibility... Fully flex whY down and J up... Hmm decisions decisions...

It's $114....... You should NOT be thinking about this.... You should be booking in J and thinking of those fellow pax who WISH they were up front with you.:p

Why does the $1k need to be spent on a single return trip?

Couldnt you use it on a few bookings? Spend on the flights in discount Y (do you really need the extra SCs - and you've then paid back boss) and use the rest for a weekend away with mrssimongr (two return tix to somewhere nice).

Needs to be used up by 10 March. If me and mrssimongr + baby go away that will end up costing us $$$ for hotel etc.

My next trip to MEL is planned for early March.

Its a no brainer! Fly J in both directions. Make the most of the extra space, enjoy the meal service and get a few drinks. As for the drinks remember most alcoholic drinks are available in J on request, so enjoy what can be available. :)

I would definitely take the J rtn. It would seriously annoy me to spend the voucher on full economy and not go the extra for a comfy seat. It's all SC for the Lifetime pot , might even be LTP ;)

Of course, every 10 SC's is worth 111.1 QFF points due to the "loyalty bonus".

So 160 SC's for J r/t would be worth an additional 1778 QFF points.
