Malaysia Airlines announced yesterday that they've ordered an additional 30 737-Max aircraft to replace the remaining 737-800s in their fleet. It will be 18 737-8s and 12 737@10s. They've also said that they'll install lie-flat seats on the 737-10s, which is great news!

I wonder if MH is going to create a 737-8 sub-fleet for long thin routes. It would allow to increase ADL to daily as well as reintroduce BNE on the 737-8, which may be "more sustainable" for BNE considering MH's previous two failed attempts at BNE.

There was a thread on AFF before with MH attempting to restart BNE services using a 737 (737-8 or -800, can't remember); received an overall revolting reception from the forum.

A 737-10 with lie flat J might be somewhat better, but both ADL and BNE are outside its range.

I suspect the -10 might be used on a handful of important intra-Asia routes; maybe also PER.

I've started that original MH 737-8 post which was initially an application for 727 seats, and at the same time they were applying for KUL-HND/NRT (6.5 hours) on the 737-8 which was also eventually pulled.

MH tried applying for BNE again with a 5x A330 which lasted only a week on the GDS before it was removed.

IIRC BNE would be touching the max range of the 737-8 (just under 3500nm). When Batik Malaysia previously operated KUL-MEL with the 737-8 it was reported on another forum that was up to 3 rows blocked off and the cargo hold was not full.
