Hi there I have 197,000 Points on my Citi Credit Card. Looking to take myself and two boys from Melbourne to London return in Sepetember and was wondering what would i be the best loyalty programme to join. It appears that my options may be limited to Kris Flyer or Velocity. Any reccos and would my points be enough to cover one of the return flights ?

Very new to this so thanks for any intel.

I recommend you spend some time reading through the threads on AFF to see how to accumulate more points. You also need to learn about forward planning the use of your points.

You are not undertaking the travel that you want based on your current number of points or by trying to book so close to your intended departure date.

Welcome to AFF

Your challenges are:
Citi Credit Card converts 2:1, so you have 98,000 Velocity Points. (Singapore conversion is worse)
Velocity requires 80,000 points to get a one way economy.
Sept is very close (in terms of Award seats) and is School holidays, so would normally be quite hard to find award seats to LHR. (probs too late for KrisFlyer, unless you went with a standby award ticket)

In your favour:
Virgin is now offering services to Qatar, so a bunch more award tickets available

To do:
Do some dummy bookings on some dates that interest you on the Virgin site (or KrisFlyer site - Kris you will need to have an account first) and you will get an idea of availability. Look for the days with the 80K tickets.
