I know MCT in Brisbane for domestic-to-domestic is 30 minutes.

Now... if I was to book separate tickets (arriving in J, departing in Y) with a 15 minute connection in BNE. (PER-BNE-SYD)

Obviously requires everything to go right. And the 2nd flight is the last one of the day.

How crazy am I? (Will be a lowly platinum when we take the flight, so no P1 VIP support).

Downright stupid even if you were P1. They would be already down to boarding the last few passengers at your time of arrival from PER and that last flight of the night to SYD often closes up early as it's not often full.

Yup. Was as obvious as soon as I re-read it - going to change the award ticket for a simpler / safer connection in CBR

Plus, arrival time <> time out of the plane and ready to run to the next gate. If both flights are on time, your second flight is probably already closed by the time you get out of the first one.

I guess no-one is thinking the truly crazy bit is 737 "J" on PER-BNE, then BNE-SYD Y ... rather than direct PER-SYD in (real) J on A330, because this is all some status-saving craziness?

And I've seen these flights over the years board early and push back.

Good luck. Is there a backup plan?

Living in SYD, but a avios-booked QR J/F award can only get you so close.

Not possible
But even with a separate PNR you would still be put on the next available. The operative word is "available". Better to choose rather than given the "available"
