I am most likely clutching at straws here but i was wondering if anyone was on or can remember being on a qantas flight on a 747 Hong Kong to Melbourne arriving 21st September 1988.Pilot made an announcement which i didn't hear then flew over control tower then stated we had to go out and circled while they had to crank something down.Landed safely though stopped the plane well away from the terminal and had to be bused to terminal.By the way it was my first and only time into Kai Tak.What a fantastic approach(for the passenger at least)

Checking the ATSB database, I can't find any recorded investigations or incidents for that month or either side of the stated date.

However, this does not mean that the incident didn't occur or that an investigation didn't take place. As I found out from some research into Perth Airport last year, not every single incident has been loaded into the public database for one reason or another (nothing nefarious with this of course).

ATSB will happily perform a database search and tell you whatever public info they have, and if the information is available they will at the very least send you a summary sheet of the investigation.

To make the enquiry to ATSB, send an email to [email protected] with as much detail as possible, from location, route being flown, date/time of occurrence, aircraft type and carrier if known, and anything else that will assist in tracking down information if available.

I've found they will generally get a response back to you within two to three business days without fail.

Edit: I swear nlagalle and I think alike sometimes. We have this habit of posting similar information within minutes of each other now and again.
