Hi FFlyers,
I am flying F from LHR - MEL from T3. Just a quick question for anyone who has taken the LHR - MEL route in F.
I was wondering how early can I check in and drop my bags off. I am arriving into LHR early from a DUB flight. I will probably be there about 6.5 - 7 hours before my Qantas flight to Singapore. Flying F on the A380 can i check in this early? What is the earliest I can check in at the F desk.
Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
EuroFlyer

Hi EuroFlyer.

IME, you can pretty much drop them off any time that day. I have done the same... Arrived from VCE at 8am and checked in right away. (My onward QF flight was 10pm or thereabouts.)

We just headed into the city for the day, sans luggage.

Thanks Boss for sharing your experience with this. That's great news. I will probably spend my time checking out the various one world lounges in T3.

Cheers

Ha-ha... See, I think that's what makes me a NON Frequent Flyer, frequent flyer.... If you know what I mean.

Enjoy the lounges, AND don't EVER stand in line... As an F passenger... You don't have to.

Sure it can still be done at that hour? In the past Qantas had a lunchtime departure so were open earlyish, but now both their departures are not until late. If I recall at T3 Qantas had their own desk rather than using the BA one opposite, so cannot imagine they would be open before 5-6pm. I would say the only option is to hope the BA desk will check you in.

T3 lounges aren't that good, the F dinning experience is poor.

I would push on & head into the city for some decent food & a relaxing drink or three.

I have checked in for my evening flight quite early in the morning. I think they have to "open" the flight to do it. However it has never been an issue.

As QF silver, flying in F, are they entitled to other Oneworld lounges?

But as I said things have changed recently (March wasn't it) so is your experience since they have got rid of the lunchtime flights or when they still had 4 flights a day? So yes when they had the lunchtime flights it may well have been possible, but now there are no flights until late why would they have staff at check-in at that hour? As I recall at T3 Qantas had their own check-in area rather than using BA's and they did not use BA as the ground handling agent, so not sure who would be around to check-in with unless there is some special arrangement with BA for this very situation.

I've been there since March. Still have not had any issues. I think as it is such a major hub that this would not be very uncommon.

That's interesting and very much a surprise considering they only have two flights a day, both late in the evening. So who was it that checked you in, someone working for BA or for Qantas.

I have never had an issue. Perhaps call the F Host before hand? That is what I usually do if I have an unorthodox request :)

I have always gone to the usual F check in area. On one occasion there were no staff in attendance so I went to the BA service desk located just inside the entrance. I was walked over to the F check in area and checked in within about 5 minutes.

As zachary.august says... If there is ever an issue... Call the F Host. It is never a problem.

Are you flying OW into LHR? Could they not check you through?

He is coming in from Dublin, no OneWorld airline flies between Dublin and LHR. BA stopped with their own metal 4 years or so ago (and even then IIRC they flew to LGW rather than LHR) and Aer Lingus left OneWorld years ago too. About all that flies the route these days is BMI, which although now owned by BA has not joined OneWorld, but the flights do carry a BA code.

Been discussed here and the answer is technically no. But if you search the web you can find conflicting opinions.

Hi Guys,
Iv checked and it has been confirmed that once a person is flying in F they are entitled to lounge access of any of the OW lounges.
There was talk before of this being changed but its since been confirmed.
See extract from OW site below.

"
[h=2]oneworld lounge access for First Class or Business Class travellers[/h] Indulge yourself before departure in a wider range of airport lounges when you fly First Class or Business Class with a oneworld member airline.

Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. (First Class passengers may be accompanied by one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline).

Customers flying in Economy class on the domestic or intra-European segment to connect to or from a oneworld longhaul First or Business Class flight can also use the lounge applicable to the class in which they are travelling the longhaul segment.
