2 Adults and a 2 year old navigating Reward Bookings

Hi guys,

Daughter will look to turn 2 soon.

We fly frequently using reward bookings and typically we are used to booking 2 rewards seats in Business but understand that when daughter turns 2 she will need her own seat.

Now 3 x reward seats in business class seems unneccesary for daughter and I am also concern grabbing 3 x reward seats on a plane is much more difficult then 2 x reward seats. Does anyone have an approach to dealing with this or do we just suck it up and try to get 3 x reward seats from now on?

Rgds

Either you look for three reward seats or you stump up cash for one seat and get two reward seats. We got lucky with 4 J seats on SQ this year, and three F seats in QF last year.

The permutations are:
3 rewards seats
2 rewards seats and 1 $$ seat
1 reward seats and 2 $$ seat

Note the points cost of a rewards seat for a child is the same as an adult.
And the $$ cost of a child seat is less than an adult

Putting it together, you can see which one is the better, and more achievable permutation 👍

Or split up if possible?

Assuming we wanted to fly business I would let wife/daughter fly business with me in economy.

Yep wanted to hear about this specifically. Understand that takeoff and landing you are to be in your allocated seats but would you be allowed to enter the business class cabin otherwise and hang out with your family?

I've heard stories where this is possible but some say crew can be strict especially if those around you complain. If it's an overnight flight the crew might be too busy to worry.

It's probably worth a try and then you'll know what's possible. When my daughter was 2-3 years old she's been known to spend quite a bit of time with crew. We didn't request the crew to take care of her but they offered and would take her to the galley and show her around. Gave my wife a bit of a break.

Permutations:
1ad and 1 ch in J, 1ad in Y
1ad and 1ch in Y, 1ad in J

Some travellers have tried to swop the adults between J and Y, but this is can sometimes be frowned upon by the CC. If you want to do this, then between meal services seems to be Ok and ask the CC first.

Then the situation where the 1Y ad leaves the Y seat and goes to sit in the child J seat with child on lap.
Ive heard it happen before but its frowned on because anyone over 2 needs to have their own seat for the seat belt issue.

Then the situation where the parents fly in J and the child in Y. this has been done before but obviously not when the child is 2.

In general visiting Y from J is OK but visiting J from Y is frowned upon

Up to the cabin crew but not sure others would be all that pleased about it who'd paid the fare. A visit likely. A stay? Not so much.

Have to say once husband was in first QF1 and I was in business . He could come and say hello to me in business but I was not permitted to see him in first.

On previous trip back from the US, Mrs QS was booked into F and I was in J. At the air bridge she said - "see you in SYD". Before I could reply she disappeared into the L1 main deck door of the A380. During the flight there was no visit from her nor invite, nor did she send up a survival pack. Nothin.

I've seen people visit briefly and that was accepted, but crew (and other pax) got quite agitated if the visitor overstayed in J - especially around meal service time when they really want to use the aisles (although I guess you would just sit in the J seat and hold your child). Might be worth a try.

Oh that's just harsh!
