Had a bad experience 2 months ago one Friday night in Jakarta with the P1 "Service" team, that pushed me away from QF (international) and onto SQ.

Once I was there, it became a challenge to reach top status with SQ I am about to hit PPS after 2 months, so perhaps there is no status left to chase

I am currently sitting on 3200 QF SC with 5 months to go so I will requalify for P1 with just domestic Y and trans tasman flights

The question is will QF(international) win me back? to be quiet honest it is looking unlikely, IMHO they are being left well behind.

A few views:

SQ Positives
- J class seats on A380 and 777ER , the best J seat in the sky
- The cabin staff, the Singapore Girl is not just a advertising slogan it is SQ's greatest asset
- Impicable on time performance
- the midnight flights to SIN from BNE and MEL, the value of landing in SIN at 6.00am and being able to be anywhere in South East Asia for AM meetings in fantastic

SQ Negatives
- Silver Kris Lounges in MEl and SYD

What I miss about QF
- First lounge in SYD and MEL - they really are amongst the best in the world
- Meals in J class from Australian ports

Just some observations from someone who frequents airports.

PPS Solitaire? :p

I'm a fan of Book thr Cook so not sure if I will miss QF J meals lol...

Spose PPS Solitaire is hanging out there, at current run rate, that is around 3 years away, as I am LTG at QF apart from P1 to chase every year, there is really not a lot calling me back.

I always thought the P1 service team was the main benefit, that is until they were really needed......

I have enjoyed two international OP-UP's, but have had no contact with the P1 team. I'm prepared to stick with QF until they fail to deliver and then it will be time to shift. This will be drive by my concerns over the future of QF international as much as anything, My eggs are very much in one basket here.

What was the bad experience with the P1 team in Jakarta.

Sorry for being nosy.

I don't do as much travel as you but I like QF when overseas because there is no language problems at all.

IMHO QF lounges are world class.

I have been to both Flounges and very impressed.

I have done CX a few times and I don't mind them but sometimes they don't respect one world premium members.

But that is another story and I had a DYKWIA moment, and a security guard was going to be called(I think)

When I was QF aligned and travelled to Japan alot, a client would only pay Y, so it was cheaper to go up an back on CX and on the return overnight at the HKG hotel so I only flew during the day (cheaper including the hotel and additional food costs). I would say on got more opupgrades on CX during that period than I ever got with QFi

My experience with CX didn't show any respect to WP or one world emerald.

I was told to go and line up in the Y line it was out the door and I then said I am a Oneworld Emerald member and I was told that this line is only for CX Diamond members only, I then said go and get your supervisor and he will sort it all out. I was the served by a check in agent and I told her the issue that happened as she saw the staff member come up to me and a bit of hand waving.

She went and told her supervisor what happened as he then went up to her as I was being served.

In the last 12 and a bit months I have had 8 CX flights.

On all of my CX flights I have been treated very well as a WP. For me they seem to go that extra step and look after OWEs.

I was AA EXP for 1 year and had 3 upgrades J-F on CX.Mrsdrron in 3 years as WP has had 0 on CX.

Bringing this back on topic momentarily, I too have abandoned the Red Roo for long-haul flights and moved to Singapore Airlines. I'll get to PPS on my next flight in a week or two.

Travelling on SQ without status hasn't made the slightest difference to me as I've been flying J. The experience won't change at all when I get to PPS (except for some extra miles earned).

The overall SQ J experience is awesome and in my opinion vastly better than Qantas. I still look forward to my SQ flights even though I travel quite a lot. With any other airline the novelty would have worn off long ago.

The only thing I miss about Qantas is the MEL and SYD lounges. But these days I rarely have much time to sit around in airline lounges and I try to get to the airport with as little time to spare as possible...

I was PPS for 4 years and not one bloody upgrade. Stickler for the rules that lot. Inflight food very rich. Cardiologists dream....

Upgrades from Y on medium-long haul are very rare (or non-existent?), as are any upgrades from J to F. However, for short haul travelling in Y, my last two flights MNL-SIN on Friday afternoons have been upgraded as have several flights from CGK. So they do exist, but flights needs to be short haul and really overbooked (Fri afternoons seem to best bet!).

As for OP, I am coming up to 12 months without setting foot on a QF plane some of it due to limited opportunity to use QF (no more than 20 flights where I could have) and some of it because I have no desire to add to my QFF points balance (as I can never seem to use them when I want to, but I almost always can on SQ). Whilst the F lounge is nice in MEL (which ironically I can access once more due to my flying on SQ thanks to BA & BD), but as I try to get to the airport around 1 hr before flight, by the time you complete formalities and make the compulsory diversion through Duty Free it leaves about 20 mins in lounge, really not enough time to enjoy any of the offerings.

How many times has mrsdrron flown CX.

I try to pick full flights and have scored well as it appears you have and others will attest.

I've swung all my long haul and trans tasman travel to DJ/VA and other carriers (with the exception of using my AA miles to burn on QF J tickets).

I'm more than happy with the service level on other carriers, and as a rule, their staff have a better attitude than QF's usually do (yes, there are the diamonds in the rough, and when you find them on QF, they're nothing short of amazing).

I keep my QF WP for one reason: travelling in the USA. OW Emerald on AA is immensely useful, especially in winter where irrops happen on a regular basis.

The odd QF F lounge trip is nice, and I do miss visiting them as often as I used to, but on-board service for 14 hours is more important than a few glasses (bottles) of champagne and a quick back rub in 2 hours IMHO.

She has had more CX flights as WP than I had as EXP-I was 3/5 and she is 0/11.
