Well I just got back from a week holiday in Japan, was an Awesome trip.

Flew with Qantas and had a few dramas on the way there, We had to fly from Tullamarine to Sydney, Then catch a connecting flight to Japan,
When we went to check in at tullamarine, we were told that our flight was over sold, then we stood there for almost 45 min while they tried to work out what other flight to put us on.
Once we were finally checked in on a flight (was only meant to leave 10 min later than our original flight meaning our 90 min stop over would still be enough)
our flight was then delayed several times, then when we did get to Sydney we had to fly around in a holding pattern for over 40 min and when we finally did land we sat on the runway for 20 min until they finally told us that one of the aero bridges was damaged and we would have to be taxied to another terminal, need less to say by the time we got to our gate the connecting flight bound for Japan was gone (this was 11pm on a sunday night)

Qantas then said they would put us on the first flight in the morning with Japan air, they then said they would put us in a Hotel and give us taxi vouchers both ways so we made our way to the taxi rank only to find a line of people that was so long I cant describe it. So we stood in line for a while only for a woman to come running out of the airport saying they have no changed the plans and we have to go to a different Hotel by bus.

Turned out to be one of the coughpiest hotels I have ever stayed in, it was after midnight by the time we got there and the kitchen was closed (Qantas gave us a $50 meal voucher that we couldn't use). We then had to be up at 5am to get to the airport in time, now I will admit that I have never been to Sydney prior to this but for those of you that have you will know what the traffic was like in the morning in the CBD trying to get there.....................

But we finally checked in and the rest was smooth sailing and an amazing holiday was had. I don't blame Qantas I and will be flying with them again next time, just thought i would share my story.

I wonder if anyone has had similar story's ?

I am curious why they offloaded passengers with an international connection vs those whose destination was Sydney and probably had less to lose by arriving a few minutes late. Did you check in late at Mel? Seems Qf could have done better particularly as these issues arose at home ports.
